Inventory problems // any suggestions for "expansion store" emulation

Hey,

A little background on the situation, we are a constantly growing interior design/ furniture store that runs all inventory management and pos/ online sales through Shopify, and that has started to cause some inventory management problems that arise when the pos system and e-commerce site merge. specifically how there is no simple delineation between items that are sold in person and online and that screws with our numbers and ease of use.

Shopify offers a similar service in their “plus” subscription that separates the stores in terms of an expansion store. where we could easily have the same items cloned and moved between stores in order not to sell in-person stock online and most importantly streamline the operation as the majority of interactions our staff has with Shopify is to check in-person inventory levels and make sales based on them, and you can see when combining that stock with e-commerce stock a visual problem arises and requires others to confirm that stock since we have no simple delineation.

in conclusion are there any apps anyone has worked with to solve problems similar to this? or if I’m out of luck on apps any other way someone could turn me to help as Shopify Plus does not make sense to fix this problem we have.

Thanks!

Are you looking for something automated? For example, an app that adds different metafields when an item is purchased via Shopify POS, as opposed to when an order is placed online?

Or are you looking for an app that allows you to specify before purchase what amount of your stock is only for in-person, and what amount is only for online?

“an app that allows you to specify before purchase what amount of your stock is only for in-person, and what amount is only for online?” would be what I’m looking for

Hi Owen,

A quick fix would be to separate the items by location. For example, if you have 1 store only, Setup 2 location. 1 location for the online sale, while another is for the Physical POS (They can be in the same address). Just name them as “Warehouse” and “Store”.

That way you can have control of which items are available to be sold in each channel, as well as the quantity.
