Is it just me or Shopify theme code editor feels laggy and slow after the recent Shopify updates?
For example: Selecting a variable/class name, moving a part of code from one place to another within the same file i.e. copy/pasting feels laggy.
What do you guys think?
Hi,
This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.
Common Observations:
- Lagginess: Selecting text, moving code, and general editing operations feel sluggish and unresponsive.
- Slow Loading: The editor itself takes longer to load and become usable.
- Freezing: The editor occasionally freezes completely, requiring a refresh.
Potential Causes:
- Increased Complexity: Shopify might have added new features or functionalities to the editor, which could be impacting performance.
- Browser Compatibility: Certain browsers might be more affected than others.
- Theme Size: Larger themes with more code and assets can put a strain on the editor.
- Internet Connection: A slow or unstable internet connection can also contribute to the lag.
Workarounds and Tips:
- Clear Cache and Cookies: Clearing your browser’s cache and cookies can sometimes improve performance.
- Try a Different Browser: Test the editor in a different browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari) to see if the issue is browser-specific.
- Optimize Theme: If you have a large theme, consider optimizing it by removing unused code and assets.
- Contact Shopify Support: Report the issue to Shopify Support so they can investigate and potentially address it in future updates.
Additional Considerations:
- Theme Editor vs. Local Development: While the online theme editor might have performance issues, consider using a local development environment (like Shopify CLI or a code editor with a Shopify plugin) for more efficient coding.
- Third-Party Apps: Some third-party apps might interfere with the editor’s performance. Try temporarily disabling any recently installed apps to see if it helps.
Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.
Best regards,
Richard | PageFly
