Hi @bavoriskova
If you are asking whether you can use a WP template on Shopify, the short answer is No. You need to purchase a template designed specifically for Shopify.

Hi, @bavoriskova !

My name is Lilith, I’m on the Social Care team at Shopify. Welcome to the platform! Happy to hear that you’re planning the migration to Shopify.

You can use a WordPress theme in Shopify, but there are some extra steps that you’ll need to be aware of. WordPress uses PHP while Shopify uses Liquid written on Ruby. This means that you’ll want to “translate” the WordPress theme into the organizational structure and language that Shopify uses for themes.

I’ve laid out 4 options in order of increasing simplicity below.

Option 1 - Convert the site yourself

If you’re very comfortable with different coding languages and want to take it on, you can review the help guides on our developers’ pages to assist with all of this. We also have a comparative blog post so you can reference the structure changes you’ll need to make.

Option 2 - Have someone convert the site for you

If coding isn’t your thing, that is totally okay, I’m not super versed in coding myself. I highly recommend hiring one of our partners to help you with this. You can find a suitable Shopify Partner in the Experts Marketplace or request a quote by following this guide here.

Option 3 - Keep your WordPress site but add a Shopify button

As another alternative, you can also keep your WordPress site and implement our checkout features by including a Buy Button snippet. We want to make sure that you have the options available to you that will make the most sense for your business. Whichever direction you go, you’ll have access to our 24/7 live support with this option as well.

Option 4 - Use one of our templates

This will be the easiest of the options. We have several free theme templates in our theme store that you can download to your Shopify admin.

Using one of these templates that best represents your brand image and customizing it with our easy theme editor will be a quicker way to launch your site. I do recommend doing this for many reasons, but some of the important ones are that our themes are optimized for speed and SEO edits. That would be one less thing to worry about.

Tips

Updating your site is always a great way to gain some awareness and reach with your brand. If you’ve had your WordPress site for a while, it might be a really cool idea to give it a refresh with a new theme in Shopify.

Social media is a great place to create buzz around launching a new site. Depending on who your target demographic is, you’ll be able to gather the audience on their social platform and engage with them.

Don’t forget that accessibility is also a very important factor in websites. We’ve got a guide to help with this and you can use some of the tips there for your WordPress site as well if you choose to keep it.

Let me know how you do with the information above! I’m happy to answer any questions you think of as you work on your business.
