Is there a way to show how many people have a product in their cart/basket?

I have seen this functionality on the product list (catalog or collections page) and product item pages on Etsy and wondered if this could be done on Shopify. Eg it says “x items left and x people have it in their baskets”

I think it is a great way to create some urgency for customers - when they can see how many other people are currently buying the product.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim!

Julie here from Shopify Support.

It sounds like you’re looking for a social proof app. There are quite a few apps in the Shopify App Store that will display a pop-up whenever a customer adds a product to their cart. By showing how popular your products are, you can easily increase urgency and build social proof with your customers.

A few popular apps I suggest looking into include:

All of these apps will display notification pop-ups that show how many people have a certain product in their cart. You can check out what these notification pop-ups look like by viewing the screenshots on each app’s “About” page in the App Store. There, you’ll also see that each app (except Sales Pop) has an Example Store which will show you what the app looks like it action.

Aside from showing how many products have been added to customers’ carts, these apps have a ton of other features that you may find useful. For example, they’ll also show recent sales, recent product views, and live visitors. They’re also customizable, meaning that you can change the look and feel of your popups so that they match your brand. With these apps, you’ll also get access to in-depth analytics, which will help you track conversions and see how effective your pop-ups are.

I encourage you to read a bit about each one, view their screenshots and example stores, and see which one suits your needs the best! Feel free to also install a couple so you can test them out yourself. If you have any questions about these apps and their functionalities, you can always reach out to the app developers directly via the Support section of their app pages.

I hope this provides you with a few solid options worth considering.
