Is there any solution (even third party) that allows Credit Card Vaulting without Shopify Plus?

Topic summary

Users are seeking alternatives to Shopify Plus for credit card vaulting functionality on standard Shopify plans.

Main Issue:

  • Credit card vaulting is currently restricted to Shopify Plus ($2,000/month)
  • One user argues this limitation isn’t due to PCI compliance, as competitors use credit card tokenization (storing card info separately, accessed via tokens)

Potential Workarounds Discussed:

  • Integrating a Stripe payment authorization page directly on the website
  • This would operate separately from Shopify’s native order/purchase flow

Status:

  • No confirmed solution has been identified
  • Discussion remains open with users expressing frustration that this isn’t standard functionality in 2025

There’s not a great reason besides forcing you to pay $2000/month why vaulting couldn’t be possible on standard Shopify plans, Shopify said for years it had to do with PCI compliance but this was never the real reason (their competitors use credit card tokenization, where the card info is stored separately and called into use by a token that triggers a certain card to be used for payment).

Has anyone figured out a workaround to vaulted cards on a D2C website?

There has got to be a way! From my research, it seems like you can add a payment authorization page from stripe onto the website but would be separate to the customer’s order/purchase

absolutely required and it’s a shame it’s missing in ootb functionality in 2025.
