It's stupid that there is NO easy way to navigate products

Topic summary

A merchant with 2000+ products is frustrated by the inability to easily navigate to products starting with a specific letter in Shopify’s admin interface. Clicking through pagination arrows is impractical for large catalogs.

Attempted Solutions:

  • Standard search bar returns all products containing the letter anywhere in the title, not just those beginning with it
  • The title:N* search syntax (suggested by a community member) also matches products containing words that start with the letter, not just product titles beginning with it
  • Vendor-based filtering works only for specific catalog structures

Workarounds Proposed:

  • Export products to Google Sheets for better filtering and navigation
  • Use third-party apps or custom coding

Core Issue:
The merchant believes Shopify should provide native alphabetical navigation/filtering as a basic inventory management feature rather than requiring paid apps or external tools. The discussion remains unresolved, with no native Shopify solution available for filtering products by their exact starting letter.

If I want to get to the products that being with N I have to click the arrows until I reach those products. I have 2000+ products. BEYOND STUPID.

Hi @stickfiguredist ,
you can search with search bar .

NOPE. If I type the letter N it just gives me ALL THE PRODUCT TITLES with the letter N. I want to be able to “JUMP” to ALL the listings that BEGIN with the letter N.

To clarify, how can I just view ALL the products that begin with the letter N?

Hi, @stickfiguredist,

Honestly, with 2000+ products, I would move to a Google Sheet.

Here’s a idea on how to do it:

  1. Export your product list to Google Sheets, you can do this manually via Shopify’s built-in export, or use an app like Matrixify for more control and automation.
  2. Set up an integration using Shopify Webhooks that auto-updates your Google Sheet whenever products are added/updated. (That way, you won’t need to keep exporting manually, but up to you.)
  3. Once it’s in Sheets, you can use filters, search by letter, or even build a dynamic dashboard to slice the data however you like.

It’s way faster than dealing with the arrows in the admin and gives you full visibility over your catalog.

I hope that helps.

Thanks!

That’s cool HOWEVER Shopify should be providing us with MUCH better inventory management tools. Their motto is ‘Make Commerce Better For Everyone’ so they should provide us with better tools to manage our inventory.

I am NOT paying extra money for what Shopify should provide as part of it’s basic service. Thanks but NO thanks.

It’s a little hidden, but there is a way!

In the admin, go to Products. Click the search icon. In the search bar, type exactly this:

title:N*

To search for products that start with “Ni” you would type

title:Ni*

Products that start with “Black”:

title:Black*

Hope this helps!

*Edit: This will get all the products that include a word that starts with that letter. So I guess it’s not exactly what you’re looking for. For example, "title:Nice” will get the product “Super Nice Mug” as well as “Nice Mug.” But it won’t get “Supernice Mug”. I already know about that. It’s NOT ideal as you’ve edited.

Hey @stickfiguredist,

Just checking whether you still need help?

Shopify still hasn’t improved the product navigation. Hopefully someday they will.

Just go for an app or custom coding

Might not help either (depends on your setup) but similar to the title: search you can also do a vendor search:-

this will give you any stock where the Vendor has a word starting with an N. Works good for us, though appreciate it may not for you (most of our vendors are one word names)

That’s not good either. I just don’t understand why Shopify can’t provide a way to jump to the products whose name begins with a certain letter.
