So we are a small family business creating our first online store/presence. We plan to get a design package on 99designs to create some graphics, but honestly, I am a bit lost writing down our requirements:
- Square logo: Can this be used as a favicon as well or should we use two separate designs here?
- Is 99designs’ Facebook Cover the same as “Shopify Social Sharing image”
- Where exactly is the “Shopify Cover Image” shown and what is it used for? What graphics is someone supposed to use for this?
What we need in total: Logo, company fonts, company colors, square logo, favicon, Facebook cover / social sharing image; maybe shopify cover image?
Does somebody know if there is a fitting design package on 99designs? We do not need letter designs, business cards and such at the moment.
Thank you very much in advance
Hey @Hoover ,
- Square logo: Can this be used as a favicon as well or should we use two separate designs here?
Yes, you can use the same logo if you want. Favicon requires square logo, size won’t matter because when you upload it to shopify, it’ll automatically be scaled down.
2.Is 99designs’ Facebook Cover the same as “Shopify Social Sharing image”
I don’t know about their exact product but, Facebook cover and Shopify Social Sharing Images are two different things.
- Where exactly is the “Shopify Cover Image” shown and what is it used for? What graphics is someone supposed to use for this?
Just a regular png file. This is the image that appears when you share your website on facebook, X, whatsapp, etc..

I don’t know about the 99design packages to be honest. But it’s better for you to try out shopify with some test images and see what you need and what you don’t need so you can be specific when asking.

Thank you for your reply! I will definitly try things out! Though, we don’t have all things set up and want to progress with the graphics design.
So sadly, I am still a little bit confused: If the “Cover Image” is used if you share your site, then what is the difference to the “Social sharing image” (Shopify description: “When you share a link to your store on social media, an image is usually shown in your post.”)?
Best wishes
Sorry my bad. I didn’t see the difference there.
Shopify Social Sharing image = Just a regular png file. This is the image that appears when you share your website on facebook, X, whatsapp, etc..
Shopify Cover Image ? There’s no official term like this. I’m thinking it’s the banner photo in the homepage when users come into the site for the first time? That’s called the hero image or banner image, but I’ve not heard anyone call it the Shopify Cover Image. Best to clarify that with 99Designs.

Shopify Cover Image is actually a shopify term: It can be found under Settings > Brand > Cover Image (about half way down)
Oh, never noticed that. Haha
I think it’s more for the “Shop” feature not for the website. I’ve built so many stores and never touched that section at all. If you have a website, that’s not really necessary because you’ll put it all in the theme. And for facebook, x, linkedin page cover photos you can upload it yourself.

Thank you very much! Things clear up a little bit :-). So would you say, that for a basic webstore launch, we are good if we get designs for the following components: logo, favicon / square icon, social media sharing image, Facebook cover?
Of cource only considering brand design and foregoing photography, icons, etc.
Best wishes and thank you very much!
Yup, that would be enough. Get the logo in color, white, and black. If your business grows in the future, some websites that want to feature you will ask for the logo in black or white so they have consistent logos in their logo collection. (if this is something that you can anticipate happening to you)
