Matching tags on customers AND order

Topic summary

A merchant needs to segment new customers (tagged NEW01-25) based on their order delivery timing—some orders are tagged SS25 (immediate delivery) and others FW25 (next fall). The goal is to create separate customer segments for new customers with current orders versus those with fall orders.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Manual approach: Use bulk editing with a spreadsheet to filter customers by order tags, then manually apply corresponding customer tags and create segments in Shopify admin.

  • Automated approach: Use the Order Automator app to automatically tag customers based on order tags. The app can process both new orders going forward and batch-process existing orders by date range. A 7-day free trial is available for one-time use cases.

The challenge centers on efficiently transferring order-level tags to customer records to enable proper segmentation.

Hello,

After the fashion fairs, I have many new customers. I’ve made the segment under the tag NEW01-25.

Some made order for immediate delivery, some for next year, some for both.

I tagged the orders accordingly ( SS25 for now and FW25 for next fall)

But I’d like to make a customer segment that gathers all new customers that have an order for now.

and an other one for new customers that have an order for next fall.

How can I easily import the tags of ORDERS to customers?

Thank you!

Bulk editing.

In your case, a spreadsheet app can help you filter which customers you want for one tag and which - for another.

Then, you need to set the customer segments through Shopify admin based on the new tags you’ve added.

If you don’t find a smooth workflow to do manually and want an automated solution, you can use Order Automator to handle jobs like this.

For your use case, here’s how you would do this in the app:

  1. Create an Auto Tag rule to Tag Customers with SOME TAG if the order tag contains SOME ORDER TAG (ex: SS25)

  2. This would now start checking new orders and apply the tag to the Customer, if the order conditions match

  3. To bulk process orders already in your store, go to the Batch Process page and select a date range to process those orders from your campaign

There’s a 7 day free trial with the app, so if you’re tight on budget and just need this 1-time job done, you can use the app for that then uninstall it within 7 days (but check out the other features first, you will probably find something useful to help you out :D).
