META Data Title Tag & Description Does not render correctly

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner is experiencing an issue where META title tags for collection pages update correctly in the HTML source code but revert to the page’s H1 heading when the page finishes loading in the browser.

Specific Problem:

  • The META title briefly displays correctly for a second during page load, then changes back to the default H1 text
  • Example: HTML shows “Test Title $100 & Under | Costume Super Centre” but browser tab displays “$100 & Under - Costume Super Centre UA”
  • The issue affects how the page appears in Google search results and browser tabs

Attempted Solutions:

  • One respondent suggested updating META tags through Shopify’s admin panel (Preferences > Meta tags), but the original poster confirmed they already know how to update these settings
  • The problem persists despite correctly updating the META data in Shopify’s backend
  • Screenshots were shared showing the discrepancy between the intended META title and what actually renders

Current Status:
The issue remains unresolved, with another user asking if a solution was found. The conversation suggests a potential JavaScript or theme-level conflict overriding the META tags after page load.

While updating META Data of our collections (both titles and description) inside shopify, the META title updates in the page HTML correctly, however when the page is loading - the META Data reverts to the page H1, not the specified Title tag in the html.

see link below:

https://www.costumesupercentre.com.au/collections/100-under

While loading the URL above, you will notice the Title tag renders correctly for a second in the browser tab, however then reverts.

HTML META Data:

Title Test $100 & Under | Costume Super Centre

Actual rendered Title on Google and on the tab in the browser:

Title - $100 & Under - Costume Super Centre AU

Is there any fix for this?

Hi there,

Thank you for your response. Finding where to update the META tags within Shopify is not the issue unfortunately, we CAN update these tags, however the changes are not being recognized.

As you can see we have updated the META Title to: “Title Test $100 and under”. However the has not been recognized.

Hello. Did you find a solution to this problem?
