Widespread Liquid error: internal affecting Shopify storefronts, initially on mobile and later on desktop. Pages became broken, with carts and app placements (e.g., Klarna, preorder banners, sale notifications) missing; some Order Printer Hello Invoice templates also failed.
Impact and symptoms:
Sites unusable for customers; add-to-cart and cart editing blocked, leading to lost sales.
Live view failing; error appears in header and footer on multiple themes (Pacific, Brooklyn).
Possible causes/workarounds discussed:
Likely a Shopify platform issue; several noted the error tied to content_for_header (a Liquid tag that injects scripts/styles into the header). Liquid is Shopify’s templating language.
Temporary fixes: comment out {{ content_for_header }} or wrap it in a hidden element; commenting out custom footer code (payment methods) removed footer errors for some. These were stopgaps, not root fixes.
Support updates:
Shopify support initially unaware, then confirmed developers identified the issue and advised checking shopifystatus.com. No immediate timeline; some called for compensation.
Current status:
Intermittent reports of partial fixes, then final posts indicate the issue is resolved across mobile and desktop for multiple stores.
Remaining questions: No official root cause shared; thread concludes with resolution reports.
Can anyone help! WE have a Pacific theme and just today the mobile only version is returning an error message ‘liquid error: Internal’ the whole page is all over the place. Where do I start how can we fix this? Where is the error from?
Hi. Sorry to hijack your post. I’m having the same “liquid error: internal” every time I choose the Hello Invoice template on the Order Printer. All other templates are fine. Please help maxlinen and me. Thanks!
Also having this error message on both desktop and mobile! I thought it was to do with an app, since my cart and sale notifications aren’t showing either from an app I use.
I spoke to them just now after an hour and they said it’s an emerging error they’re looking in to it. They seem pretty clueless and are asking alot of questions, so I think they’ve just been made aware ?
