multiple languages - one market

I run a Shopify store in the US, selling to both English and Spanish-speaking customers. I’m looking for a way to automatically show the website in the customer’s language based on their device or browser settings. What’s the best app or method to achieve this?

Hi @ErnestoRP ,

To auto-show English or Spanish on your Shopify store based on browser settings, use one of these:

  1. Shopify Translate & Adapt (Free, built-in, detects and redirects).
  2. Langify (Paid, flexible language detection).
  3. Translate My Store (Paid, adds currency options too).

Hi @oscprofessional

Does the built-in Shopify Translate & Adapt feature only translate the text on the website (like product descriptions) or does it also localize buttons (e.g., ‘Add to Cart’) and emails sent to customers?

Shopify Translate & Adapt translates:

  1. Text like product descriptions, collections, and menus.
  2. Buttons (e.g., “Add to Cart”) if your theme supports localization.

For emails, translations must be manually added in Notifications, as it’s not automated. Use apps like Langify for full automation, including dynamic content and email localization.

Thanks @oscprofessional for the detailed answers

I have one last question: is there a reliable way (like using a VPN or proxy) to check if the language localization is working correctly for different audiences on Shopify?

Yes, there are reliable ways to test language localization for different audiences on Shopify:

  • Use a VPN (e.g., NordVPN) to simulate different countries.
  • Change browser language settings to your target language.
  • Chrome DevTools: Set Accept-Language under Network Conditions.
  • Use tools like BrowserStack for location/device simulation.
