A user asks whether Shopify supports assigning multiple barcodes to a single product, noting they currently work around this by creating separate variants—a feature they consider standard in most POS systems.
Current Workarounds:
Creating variants for different barcodes
Maintaining separate product listings
Both methods reportedly create messy inventory management
Community Response:
Another user confirms Shopify does not offer this functionality despite repeated requests in forums. They highlight a common retail scenario: suppliers frequently use multiple barcodes for the same product based on origin or updates.
Status: The discussion remains unresolved, with users expressing frustration that this widely-available POS feature has not been implemented despite ongoing merchant feedback.

Is there a way to assign multiple barcodes to a product on Shopify? Currently, I’m creating a variant for the different barcodes but this feature seems to be standard in most other POS solutions.
Can anyone from the shopify team provide feedback if this feature would be added?
Shopify wont provide this. If you search the forums they have been asked so many times. I have never come across another POS that doesn’t allow it. It is infuriating, suppliers often have several barcodes for the same product depending where it originates or change a barcode for whatever reason. The only solution on Shopify is to have multiple variants of the same thing or seperate listings. It gets very messy very quickly. I simply can’t understand why they wont listed to those of us who run our shops as to what we need!
