We are new to Shopify Plus and just rolled out B2B on our store. We then discovered we would have no choice but to use New Customer Accounts. We were really surprised that New Customer Accounts are not compatible with apps. The customer experience for B2B is not what we envisioned it would be. The lack of a professional dashboard for customers (which we had already built in Customer Accounts Hub but cannot use) is a big negative for us. I’ve seen on message boards that this is in development. Is there any update of when we can realistically expect to see New Customer Accounts work with apps? (or any other option for B2B accounts, like using Classic)
Hey @AllanQ !
New customer account extensibility is expected to be available in December: https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/customer-accounts#release-timeline
Unfortunately I doubt that Shopify will ever bring B2B functionality to classic accounts since they seem to be pushing everything to the new account system. Rather I expect they will continue to slowly role out additional customization and integration options for new customer accounts.
Thanks Brett, very helpful! We are currently using a workaround for B2B applications that uses a Helium Customer Fields form.
That’s awesome to hear! I don’t know exactly what this will look like or if it will help with your specific use case, but I do know that our team is definitely planning to make use of the customer account extensibility features when that is available, which will probably mean being able to add customer forms directly into the new customer account profile page.
That is great news for us
