Nexus created by installing a POD app....how?

Hello.

I manage a number of Shopify stores for authors and most of them use a company called BookVault to fulfill paperback orders. BookVault is a POD vendor, meaning that when an order comes through, they print the order immediately. They then fulfill and ship the order directly to the customer. No stocking or inventory involved. They have fulfillment locations in the US (Ohio), UK, Canada and Australia.

To make this work there is a BookVault App that is installed on each Shopify store to “link” the store to BookVault for order fulfillment. This creates the links and an appropriate shipping profile in each store.

In the last month, EVERY single store that I manage (dozens) that has the BookVault app installed, and have US fulfillment enabled have suddenly reached Nexus in Ohio according to Shopify. Every…single…one. I’ve run reports on every store and none of them have reached either the order number or order value threshold for nexus in Ohio.

It’s interesting because this seems to align with BookVault deploying and update to their app…and their US location is in Ohio.

Here’s my question. Can a customer using an app/POD vendor actually have nexus in the state in question even though they haven’t reached the nexus requirement? Can the vendor’s location and nexus status impact the nexus status of the Shopify store?

None of the other POD vendors our clients work with seem to do this.

Thanks for any insight/advice/knowledge…'cause I’m stumped.
