OMG … how do I reorder the products my customers see? (The Collection - manual way doesn’t work)
I’ve tried to do this with the online suggestions and I can’t see the products … only “Collection”

I can definitely take a look into this with you. I just have a few questions to make sure I am fully understanding the situation. How would you like your products to be ordered/displayed? Are you able to walk me through the steps you are taking to reorder your products in a collection? Are you following these steps here? Also, when you say you can’t see the products, do you mean you see them in your Shopify Admin, but not on your storefront?
To manually sort products in a collection you will want to first select the collection that needs to be edited from the Products > Collections page in your Shopify Admin. From there, under the Products section you should see the option to sort Manually. If this is selected you can drag your products into the order you’d like them to be in. You will also see the option to sort by some pre-set sorting options instead.
Once you change the order, these changes should be saved automatically. That being said, if you notice that the Save button is highlighted in green you will want to make sure you click “Save” before leaving the page. If the “Save” button is greyed out then the change should have already been saved.
Please let me know if you try that out and are still having issues with it. I’m happy to troubleshoot this with you further.

There is a Shopify default that orders the storefront products in a way
that I don’t want as the first impression for the customer. I have more
recent products that I’m trying to feature and they are buried in the
“first look” when I visit my own site (as a visitor would).

I can reorder the products as a visitor but I don’t expect the visitor to
do this. I can reorder the products when I’m in the backoffice/admin page
of products, but, this is only for viewing purposes in the storefront. It
doesn’t change the Shopify default storefront. UGH!

I get immediately hung up on “Collections”
I don’t understand “collections.” I have a bunch of products… and
collections don’t register for me as what I set up.
This is likely the source of my confusion.

Can you walk me through how you are adding products? Also, where are you trying to display your products on your storefront? Is there a page in your menu that you want customers to visit to see your products?
For context, Products are typically individual items that you add to your store. For example, “Tshirt” and “Sweater” are two individual products. Collections are groups of products. For example, “Shirts” is a collection and it includes both the “Tshirt” product and the “Sweater” product. I’ve included some screenshots to show this below.

In order to display the products on your storefront you will need to first create the products and collections you want to display. Once those are created and made available to your online store, you can set up your menu so that the correct products and collections are connected to the right places on your storefront.
The order that your products are displayed will depend on the order set up in the collection for that group of products. You can edit the order of a collection by going to the Products > Collections page in your Shopify Admin, selecting the collection you want to re-order, and using the Sort option.
If you have many products I would consider separating them into collections so it’s easier for your customers to navigate your website. That being said, if you are trying to display all of your products together in one collection I’d advise you to create a new collection with all of your products in it. This will allow you to sort it the way you’d like.
