Hi, I’m trying to create an order confirmation email and I’m struggling to find how I can add the products bought by a customer in one session to the dynamic products shown because the only options I have here that can be shown dynamically is our bestsellers or newly published products.
Not sure what you mean. Are you trying to edit Shopify’s already made order confirmation email, or are you making a completely different email template?
I’m not aware they have an existing order confirmation email template and I don’t see it on my end. Is it called "Thank customers after they purchase”? It doesn’t show the products the customer bought though and I want it to be like an invoice containing their payment method, deliver address, total price, etc.
Go back to Admin, go to Settings → Notifications → Customer Notifications.
You’ll see the order confirmation email. You don’t need to create a new one. Shopify has all that covered. Check through the entire section. There are lots of things.
They are already automated so you don’t have to send them. Shopify sends them automatically on your behalf.
Ah I see it! Thank you so much.
This is a common challenge when setting up personalized order confirmation emails. Instead of relying only on bestsellers or new arrivals, try using dynamic tags or variables from your e-commerce platform that pull the customer’s purchased items directly from the order data. Many platforms (like Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.) have order object fields you can reference in the email template. If that’s not natively supported, you could pass the order details through your automation tool (like Klaviyo or Mailchimp). Once set up, it’ll make your confirmations feel much more personal and relevant.
We only use the built-in email tool in Shopify.
Hi Kiacruz, it sounds like you may be working in Shopify Email rather than the standard order confirmation under Settings > Notifications.
The dynamic product section in Shopify Email is designed for recommendations, which is why it only offers options such as bestsellers and newly published products. Shopify’s standard order confirmation should already display the products included in the customer’s order.
If you want to do more than show the usual receipt, this is the gap we built Digital Unboxing & COA Kit around. It uses the customer’s actual purchase to create a personalised digital handover with the product, care information, a maker’s note and a certificate of authenticity. It can also include a separate recommended product.
It is available in the Shopify App Store if you would like to see how it works.
