Oversell Problem: 2 Products - 1 SKU

Dear Shopify team + community,

Following problem:

  • We have some unisex products, but in Shopify we show them on separate product pages (male/female) to avoid confusion for the end customer
  • This means that one SKU is often assigned to two products in the Shopify backend
  • If the stock is now assumed to be 1 and a male customer buys the product, then the stock of the male product is reduced to 0 in Shopify. However, the female product remains at stock 1 and can still be purchased. If this is now also purchased, we sell 2 products in Shopify, although only 1 is in stock.

We have a constant sync with our warehouse/fulfillment which adjusts the stock and helps but is not the solution to our problem.

Do you know a solution which allows to sync the stock over both/several products at the same time if they have the same SKU? Coming back to my example, meaning that the female product stock in Shopify would be reduced to 0 at the same time when the male product is sold. So that both product stocks in the Shopify backend linked to one SKU are synced somehow.

I am looking forward to your feedback! :slightly_smiling_face:

Best and thanks a lot,

Lukas

Hi @cycling-lukas ,

We recently Fusion Inventory which can help with this problem. In the app, you can link to product variants to the same SKU (among other things). Just do the following:

  1. Create a material that represents the base SKU.
  2. Configure a bill of materials for both product variants. The bill of materials defines what materials are used to make the product variant. Both product variants should use the same material which you created in step 1.
  3. Activate Inventory Sync. After you do this, the app will keep your product variant’s inventories in sync.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Hi @cycling-lukas ,

You can easily resolve your inventory issue with the Easify Inventory Sync app. Here’s how it works :hugs: :

  1. Create an Inventory Group: Set up a group for your products with the same SKUs (like your unisex tees across different collections) and assign a mutual inventory to this group.

  2. Automatic Sync: When one product in the group is purchased, the inventory will automatically adjust for the other products in the same group, ensuring accurate stock levels.

The app includes a demo and a detailed guide to help you set up your case. I hope you find it helpful and give it a try!
