Partially Refund Orders from Marketplace Were Marked as Cancelled on Shopify

I connected my Etsy store with Shopify using Marketconnect, and started to sync orders from Etsy so that I have a central location for all orders. However, I noticed if I partially refund any Etsy orders (i.e. postage overcharge), Marketconnect will mark the orders as cancelled, and there seems to be no way for me to correct the status.

This is really frustrating, as the sales data are crucial for my bookkeeping, sales analysis, tax analysis etc. Any idea how to fix this issue? Any workaround?

Thanks!!

Hello,

It sounds like Marketconnect is interpreting partial refunds as full cancellations, which disrupts your order management and sales records. Here are a few steps and potential workarounds you can try:

Contact Marketconnect Support: Reach out to Marketconnect’s support team to report this as a bug. Since this behavior isn’t standard, they might have a solution or may be able to adjust how refunds are handled in the sync.

Change the Refund Workflow on Etsy: If Marketconnect can’t address the issue, try issuing partial refunds directly through Shopify instead of Etsy. This might prevent the cancellation from being triggered in Marketconnect, though you’ll want to test this approach on a low-impact order first.

Use Shopify’s Order Management for Adjustments: Instead of issuing refunds for overcharges, consider adjusting the shipping charge directly in Shopify for future orders, if your process allows it. You could also include a separate entry to adjust for postage overages.

Use a Third-Party App: If Marketconnect continues to mark partially refunded orders as canceled, consider using a third-party integration tool like Order Desk, Syncio, or CedCommerce for syncing Etsy with Shopify. These tools may give you more control over order status handling and allow you to manage refunds and adjustments without causing order cancellations.

Manual Data Adjustment for Bookkeeping: As a temporary workaround, you could manually adjust affected orders in your bookkeeping or analytics platform. While not ideal, this approach can help ensure that sales data remains accurate until a more permanent fix is in place.

Hello,
JackSmith,

It sounds like you’re dealing with a tricky situation! Manually adjusting order statuses can indeed be tedious, but it might be the simplest way to maintain consistency for now. Reaching out to Marketconnect’s support is a ehallpass
great idea, as they might have specific solutions for handling these types of transactions within their system. If they offer any customization options or insights on preventing cancellations from partial refunds, it could save a lot of hassle.

In the meantime, using a separate tracking method outside Shopify for partial refunds, like a simple spreadsheet or an analytics tool, could help you keep your sales data clear without compromising your order records. Let’s hope for a streamlined update soon—good luck!
Hope you understand.
