Hi! How can I setup a payment provider for my shopify store that is based in Suriname(Latin America). I always find trouble doing this part. I tried paymentwall, but it’s very difficult and not beginner friendly. And I want to sell globally(mainly the US or so). I’m stuck on mainly this part and can’t seem to finish it.
Hey @Cosmet
Suriname is a tough spot for payment processing since Shopify Payments isn’t available there. A few options worth trying:
PayPal does have a Suriname page (Send Money, Shop, Manage Payments & More | PayPal SR) and lists Suriname as a supported country. Try setting up a PayPal Business account and connecting it to your Shopify store under Settings → Payments. It’s the most beginner-friendly option and your US customers already trust it. If it works for your region, this is your fastest path.
2Checkout (now Verifone). Works globally, accepts payments from US customers in USD, and is more straightforward than Paymentwall. Worth trying if PayPal doesn’t work out.
Best long-term option: form a US LLC. Since you’re mainly targeting US customers, registering a US LLC remotely (Wyoming or Delaware, costs $300-500) gives you access to Stripe directly. You don’t need to visit the US, services like Firstbase or Doola handle the entire process. Once you have the LLC + a US bank account (Mercury or Relay), Stripe works seamlessly with Shopify.
Stripe has a guide for non-residents: How to open an LLC in the USA for non-residents | Stripe
Start with PayPal since it’s the quickest to test. If it has limitations in your region, the LLC route solves the problem permanently.
Good luck!
Hello there @Cosmet
If your business is in Suriname, your payment choices are more limited as Shopify Payments is not available there. A sensible approach is to use a provider that serves businesses in your country like 2Checkout (Verifone) or another gateway from the list of suported payment providers for Suriname. If you are predominantly selling to US customers, just make sure the gateway offers USD payouts and supports international cards. Selecting a provider which has a simple onboarding process will save you a lot of time in the future.
Hi @Cosmet .
The easiest option is PayPal. It is beginner friendly, widely trusted in the US, and quick to set up. Go to Shopify Admin, then Settings, then Payments and add PayPal under third party providers.
If PayPal does not work for Suriname, try Stripe or 2Checkout, as both support a wider range of countries and are easy to set up.
Start with PayPal first, as it is the quickest and simplest option!
