Paypal does not support my currency

Good day,

I am very new to Shopify and setting up my store. I live in South Africa and so paypal does not support my country’s currency, which is the South African Rand. It suggests that I change the currency on my store. Would that be the best thing to do or would I rather look for other payment methods?

It depends where exactly are you planning to sell ?

If you want to sell in SA, then you will need a payment processor which allows your customers to pay in the local currency.

If you want to sell in US and Europe and not SA, then the best option for you will be to change the currency to USD or EUR and then setup Paypal.

If you want to sell in SA, then the best payment gateway options for you would be:

PayFast, Peach Payments, Yoco, PayGate, DPO PayGate

You can set that up by going to:

  • Go to Shopify Admin > Settings > Payments.
  • Click “Add a provider” and select PayFast, Peach Payments, or another local option.
  • Follow the integration steps provided by the payment gateway.
  • Test your checkout process to ensure payments work smoothly.
