Is there a way to change a pickup order to an order that needs to be shipped without have to cancel the original order or create a separate order just to ship it?
Hi, @Shantelpatnett .
Thank you for reaching out!
Yes, it’s possible to change a pickup order to an order that needs to be shipped on Shopify without having to cancel the original order or create a new one. Here are the steps to follow:
-
Edit the shipping address: Go to your Shopify dashboard, click on “Orders,” and open the order that you want to change to a shipping order. Click on the “Edit” button in the “Shipping address” section and enter the new shipping address.
-
Add shipping method: In the order details section, click on the “Add shipping” button and select the shipping method that you want to use.
-
Check the shipping rate: Once you have selected the shipping method, Shopify will calculate the shipping rate based on the destination and weight of the order.
-
Send a notification to the customer: If the shipping rate is acceptable, send a notification to the customer letting them know that their order will now be shipped to the new address.
-
Payment adjustment: If there are any shipping fees due, you can adjust the payment amount in the order details section.
By following these steps, you can easily change a pickup order to an order that needs to be shipped without canceling the order or creating a new one. It’s worth noting that this process may not be available on all themes or Shopify plans, so be sure to check your account settings to make sure that you have the required features and functionality.
Please let me know if you have any further questions! I would love to learn more about your business. What type of products do you sell?
Talk soon,
No, it’s not available on my Shopify plan. It’s very frustrating to not be able to change a pick up order to one that needs to be shipped.
Hi Emily,
This solution did not work for my regular plan. Any other ideas? This feature has been a lot of requests from customers and Shopify should have been solved already.
Thanks,
E
Hey, @ESS00.
Thank you for joining the thread.
It’s important to note that orders with local delivery or pickup cannot be edited, and this is indicated on our guide - Editing order items - Shipping. However, we understand that this is something that’s heavily requested, and we’d be happy to add you to this feature request. If Shopify moves forward with any new features or platform changes, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.
That being said, if the shipping is being offered to the customer for free, then there is a workaround where you can create a draft order by creating a zero-cost item and adding the customer’s details. Using this separate order, you’ll be able to purchase a shipping label for the original order. However, this is only a workaround and may not be the perfect solution for all scenarios.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don’t hesitate to let us know.
Nope. Not a perfect solution. Customer changed their mind; don’t want to pick up after all, or can’t pick up. Just a toggle switch. Turn off pick-up, turn on shipping. Don’t make me create a whole new ghost order that muddies up my record keeping.
Hey there, @DahliaLady! Thanks for taking the time to follow up with us here regarding Elias’s response, and the workaround that was offered to achieve this functionality. We do recognize that this workaround doesn’t address the request to be able to easily change an order from pick-up to one that needs to be shipped. With that being said, I’ve gone ahead and passed your feedback along to our developers so they can be made aware of the value that this functionality would bring to our merchants. I can’t promise what the outcome of that feedback will be, but you can trust it will be seen by the folks that need to see it.
I would like to add my voice to this request to. As Shopify doesn’t allow you to create custom fulfilment statuses, keeping track of an order that was going to be shipped but is now a Pick up in Store is messy. We just have to leave it as unfulfilled and use notes and tags to hopefully not confuse other staff. Being able to edit these sorts of things on behalf of customers seems like a fairly basic function which retailers should be able to do, and I can see requests for it dating back years in this forum so I’m sure its something a lot of people would appreciate.
Hi Emily,
Thanks for the information. I checked Shopify help and the chatbot replied: You can’t change an existing order from pickup to delivery. The customer needs to place a new order with the delivery option selected. For more details, check out this article: Setting up pickup in store for online orders.
But I did try the process you mentioned, updating the shipping address and indicating the fixed shipping fee. The timeline said: “You sent invoice #XXXXX to XXX”. From this, the customer settled the outstanding shipping fee online and the order was updated from store pickup to delivery.
Thanks! - DS
