Thank you for your message, I would be happy to offer you some suggestions on this. Chrome, as well as some other browsers, automatically block autoplay on videos that have sound. On mobile devices, particularly Android and iOS, autoplay is disabled by the OS to save users’ mobile data. They have done this for the following reasons:
Visually impaired users that use screen readers can’t hear the screen or find how to stop the video.
Some people browse the internet while watching TV or are on the phone, or while completing other tasks that have sounds. Autoplay video interrupts the user’s task, which will most likely lead to page abandonment.
Many users will also automatically close a browser tab that has sound by default, which means that an autoplay video will definitely lose merchant sales and hurt their overall conversion.
That said, you could always reach out to your theme developer to see if something like this would be possible on their end. You are using the Prestige theme, which is a third-party theme developed and supported by a team called Maestrooo. You can reach out to their support directly on our themes page here, under the tab support and documentation:
If their team is not able to support your idea, you could always wait to see if a friendly member of our community has any suggestions, or reach out to a Shopify Expert.
I hope this information is useful to you moving forward, please do not hesitate to reach back out here with any questions you may have!
We lunched an app called Spotlight Video Machine a few weeks ago that ads videos to collection pages, however it won’t replace the collection image but the actual product images with videos (made of those images).
Please check it out and let me know your thoughts,
