Product Page Barcode field moved, increased workflow

Okay, Shopify - time to rake you over to coals. The new update has moved the barcode and price entry fields. These are literally the bread and butter of the POS system. The only two required pieces of information for every product is price and barcode. Now, these are tucked under some kind of categorization interface.

I need y’all to start counting clicks and understand how you are impacting the most basic feature of your POS product: Barcode and Price. All that other info - cost per item, category, all the other stuff that Shopify want’s to put front and center: completely useless metadata for you only, maybe some tax stuff - but after that, it’s all about that price and barcode. I need these fields to be front and center - not hidden behind another click.

I do not care about your API issue, your autofiller issues with other systems, or your data problems - I 100% do not care - I care about running my business POS in the most basic, easy, no-fills way I can - and y’all are breaking that.

Grrrr… I came here to also complain about how @Shopifystores continue to impact the running of a small business by ADDING CLICKS REQUIRED.

It wasn’t so long ago that all these metafields were added and now a bunch of the fields I need to populate or untick have been hidden behind drop-down menus. Here’s a list of the additional clicks needed to complete what I used to be able to do much simpler (and faster!):

-- sales in my brick-and-mortar need to be manually removed. Products USED to default sort by A-Z but now they default to Created > Newest. This means I have to click the UP/DOWN arrow, select Product Title then A-Z (this ADDED THREE CLICKS)

– Category (never used to have to select but now I do this ADDED TWO CLICKS)

– I need to uncheck Charge Taxes (now hidden behind a drop-down, ADDED ONE CLICK)

– when I’ve sold thru my sale items, I need to use the Compare At Price. To access this has ADDED ONE CLICK

– I provide a unique SKU for each product entered. Now hidden behind a drop-down, ADDING ONE CLICK

– and perhaps the MOST FRUSTRATING was Metafields being included, without any consultation process. Every product I enter (which can be 20-25 per day!) I now must click outside of the metafield box in order to select “clear”. This has added TWO CLICKS.

You can why this has become so frustrating!

Please remove the changes you performed yesterday Shopify.
It’s not only poor functionality, it actually looks crap and cluttered.

Have you ever tried adding product through a CSV file? I experimented with it for a while and created a custom quick template that only shows the data categories and metafields I want to enter. I hid the unnecessary columns. You just go down the list of whatever invoice you are copying from. It cuts time drastically.

Click import and all the new products appear as drafts. Click each new products box to highlight them all, go to bulk edit, add in your photos and mark as active!

Once you get use to it, youll never want to enter product through individually ever again.

Thanks @THIS_Skateshop but I have an automation set up that is unlikely to work if I use a CSV file to enter new product.

Totally agree with this comment. This new layout hinders rather than helps and all extra unnecessary clicks. I have already nearly missed updating a field as it’s not so obvious. At least let us keep the fields open that we use regularly in some form of settings if we wish to do that or hide others. Also, why we still don’t have a SKU field option on the main Products columns seems ridiculous. We refer to SKUs all of the time - and supplier SKUs which we now have to include as a Metafield for updates.

Well Spoken BDEDDY!

Not only has the latest update added more scrolling and clicks — now the inventory columns on the product page do not total at the bottom!

Is there any way of reversing a Shopify update? They hardly ever improve the UI or functionality.

Please, let’s get this feedback seen
