Product URL handle

On my Shopify store i used to add same name products like ‘cotton t-shirt’ and Shopify used automatically handle product URL by adding number at the end but now its not doing that i have to change URL manually

what’s the issue?

Hi @Abdullahhh12 ,

Based on what you mentioned I tried creating products with the same title that you used “cotton t-shirt”, for me it works as expected. Each time a new product is created with the same title, a suffix (sequence number) is added after the original product handle. Please see the screenshot below:

As you mentioned, you’re using the same title, but instead of a number, the suffix on the handles is different. This could happen if you’re duplicating existing products when creating new ones. In that case, the new product handles will have the suffix ‘-copy’ instead of a number. If that’s the method you’re using, it might explain the issue you’re facing.

If that’s not the case, if you can share a video demonstrating the process you are following to create new products, then maybe I can help you in a better way.

If my response helped you, please consider giving it a like ( :+1: ) and marking it as an accepted solution if it resolved your issue. Your feedback helps other community members with similar questions.

Thank you!

We are having the same issue - we upload items in bulk but then go into each listing to edit and change the URL to match the new title and we could have hundreds of the same URL. Usually when you are within the listing and you copy the new title and paste into the handle at the bottom of the page, Shopify automatically adds a number to the end. But now it errors and you have to manually make up something and add it to the end - Is this just a bad update?

This now seems to be fixed / working again!
