I’ve been notified by customers today that upon selecting PUERTO RICO as the state of their shipping address an error pops up telling them to select the state and will not allow them to complete purchases. The address on the attachment is mine. And as you can see PUERTO RICO IS NOT IN THE COUNTRY OPTIONS. AND NO, IT WILL NOT LET ME CONTINUE selecting it as a state anymore. I have about 13 to 15 abandoned carts a day and I can only imagine how much trouble this has been for customers. And it is not only my shop. My colleagues are having the same issue with PUERTO RICO. MY SHOP DEPENDS 100% ON SALES FROM MY COUNTRY AND U.S.A. THIS IS NOT GOOD!
Topic summary
Multiple Shopify merchants are reporting that customers in Puerto Rico cannot complete purchases due to a checkout error. When selecting Puerto Rico as the shipping address state, an error message appears instructing users to “select the state,” preventing transaction completion.
Key Issues:
- Puerto Rico is not appearing in country options during checkout
- The problem affects multiple stores, not just isolated cases
- One merchant reports 13-15 abandoned carts daily, with their business heavily dependent on Puerto Rico and U.S. sales
Troubleshooting Attempted:
- Merchants have verified shipping zones and profiles are configured correctly
- Shopify support has been contacted but hasn’t provided effective solutions
- One user’s test showed Puerto Rico working properly, suggesting inconsistent behavior
Current Status:
The issue remains unresolved with at least 4-5 merchants confirming the same problem across different stores. No working solution has been identified yet.
Make sure the territory is selected in the relevant shipping zones and relevant shipping profiles.
All checked Out. It seems I’m not the only one having this problem. Several colleagues from PR are having the same issue. Already contacted shopify support.
Hello @Plugprbyyampi ,
Is this an isolated incident, or do you consistently encounter difficulties in obtaining rates with PR?
Upon initial inspection, it appears that everything is functioning properly with PR based on my recent test.
Hi! I’m having same issue, support doesn’t give any reasonable solution and everything is set up fine. Did you figured out how to fix it?
Same here, i have 2 shops and having the same issue.
Same problem here. For no reason we can’t ship to Puerto Rico… Has anyone managed to fix it?
