Request for Technical Assistance – Store Performance and Robots.txt Issue

Dear Shopify Support Team,

I’m reaching out regarding two ongoing issues with my Shopify store that I’ve been unable to resolve, even after contacting your support team earlier.

  1. My theme editor shows a “store performance is not good” message. Despite following optimization suggestions and seeking help, the issue remains unresolved.

  2. I’m also unable to add or modify the robots.txt file — there’s no visible option to create or edit a new template for it within my theme code.

I rely on Shopify as a paid service and have always appreciated its ease of use and reliability. However, this experience has been disappointing as I haven’t been able to receive the required developer-level support for these technical concerns.

I kindly request that my case be reviewed by a Shopify developer or technical expert who can help me resolve these issues effectively.

Thank you for your attention and understanding. I look forward to your prompt assistance.

Hi @Clothivee

For the first issue, you do not need to worry that much, as that code is an exception and it needs to be there for the theme to work. And while some suggestions are valid in editor you should first check general performance

and then worry about those small improvements in the editor. As you use Horizon theme, it is tested on Shopify, and you are not a theme developer to create a theme from scratch.

For the second issue, why do you need to edit robots.txt? Note default one that Shopify generates is fine. But if you know what you are doing, then sure, you can change it by creating robots.txt.liquid, just click on templates and file add icon at top of the editor

Dear team,

I kindly request your assistance in improving both the SEO and overall performance of my store through light theme optimizations. I believe that making these enhancements will significantly improve the website’s visibility and user experience.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me resolve this issue at the earliest.

Thank you for your time and support.

Hey there! @Clothivee

Sorry to hear you’re running into some frustrating technical issues.

On the store performance message, I totally get how discouraging that can be. Although Shopify’s built-in analytics and reports offer some insight into what might be slowing things down (like large images or high-impact apps), they don’t always give the full picture. If you’d like to dig deeper into how your store’s loading speed and performance are affecting sales, I definitely recommend checking out a third-party reporting app like Mipler reports, which can highlight problem areas and trends that aren’t obvious from Shopify’s default tools.

About the robots.txt file: Shopify doesn’t let you create or delete this file directly—it’s auto-generated. But to make edits, you can add a new “robots.txt.liquid” template in your theme’s code. If you’re not seeing the option, you might need to ensure you’re on an Online Store 2.0 theme, as this is required for template editing. Here’s a Shopify guide on editing robots.txt—it’s pretty helpful!

If you want exact reports on how bots or crawl issues are impacting your site, you may also find tools like Mipler reports handy. They can help you monitor traffic patterns and spot anything unusual from search engines or bots.

If these steps aren’t working for you, I’d definitely push for your ticket to reach Shopify’s technical team—it sounds like you’ve done all the right things so far. Hang in there!
