Retail barcode labels

Topic summary

A Quebec-based business needs to comply with new regulations requiring product barcode labels in French. They currently use Shopify’s native Retail Barcode Labels app, which only prints in English, and their bilingual website setup with Langify doesn’t extend to the barcode labels.

Proposed Solutions:

  1. Third-party app: Switch to a multi-label barcode app that supports translation (example app link provided)

  2. Manual workflow for higher volume/full control:

    • Export products from Shopify (CSV or via app)
    • Create French-compliant label templates using tools like Avery Design & Print, Dymo, or Zebra Designer
    • Print locally

The manual approach offers complete compliance control and professional appearance but requires more effort. The discussion remains open with no confirmation of which solution the business will implement.

Good day,

We are a business based in Quebec and with the new law we are obligated to have all or barcode on the products in french.

We are actually using the shopify native app Retail Barcode Labels but there I can’t see any way tro translate them. All the website is billangual with langify but Retail Barcode Labels print only in English.

Hi @Simon17 ,

Yes! Basically to use multi lable barcodes, there are 2 option you can do which are as follows:

1. Use a Third-Party Label App with Translation Support - Example (https://apps.shopify.com/multi-label-barcodes)

2. If you’re dealing with higher volume or require full French control:

  1. Export products from Shopify (CSV or via app).

  2. Use a tool like Avery Design & Print, Dymo, or Zebra Designer to create compliant French label templates.

  3. Print using your local printer.

This is more manual but ensures full compliance and professional label appearance.
