Noob shopify user here on a trial and coming from Woocomemerce. One of the things I really don’t like with shopify and one of the reasons I try not to buy from shopify stores is that they force me to add personal details before seeing the shipping costs. Is there a way the potential customer only needs to add their town/state and then the options can be shown. Basically I don’t wan the name/email/full address. That would get added later only if the customer wanted to proceed.
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!
There are a couple of options that you can consider for displaying the shipping rates to customers before having them reach the checkout and add any personal information. However, the easiest method would be through the use of a third-party app, such as All-in-One Shipping Calculator, which can automatically detect the customer’s location using geolocation and then display the relevant shipping rates right on the cart page. There are other types of shipping calculators that may be simpler, such as estimating the shipping costs using the postal codes/zip codes, so feel free to explore some of the other options here: shipping calculators. If you need any help with third-party apps, then the app developers are always available to assist you - simply reach out to them through the contact information found in the Support section of their app pages.
Another option for displaying the shipping rates before checkout or adding a shipping calculator to the cart page would be through customizing your theme. If you’re using a vintage Shopify theme (eg. sectioned and non-sectioned), then you can follow this guide - Cart - Add a Shipping Rates Calculator To Your Cart. However, if you’re using one of the our newer themes (eg. online store 2.0), then you may need to consider hiring a developer to assist you with this task. Should you need help finding a developer, then we’d recommend taking a look at our directory of certified developers on Shopify Experts.
I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community! Once you’ve had the chance to check out All-in-One Shipping Calculator, I’d love to hear more about your experience so far and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your new store?
