Selecting Variant Doesn't Trigger to Change Photo - Dawn Theme 8.0.1

When I first created the store, the variant picker triggered to change the photo, but right after the customizations, it suddenly won’t work. After picking the variant, the photo won’t change. I have it already set up at the Products page.

For example:

I have 3 color variations for my product: Pink, Red, Purple, Green & Blue.

When I picked the color Blue, the product thumbnail won’t change to the chosen color.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the code that’s responsible for updating the product thumbnail based on the selected variant. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Check the code: First, check the code that’s responsible for updating the product thumbnail. Make sure that it’s still functioning properly and that there are no errors or issues with the code.

  2. Check the theme: Sometimes, issues with product variants not updating the photo can be caused by issues with the theme. Check to make sure that the theme you’re using is compatible with Shopify and that it’s up to date.

  3. Check the app: If you’re using an app to manage your product variants and images, check to make sure that it’s still functioning properly. Try disabling the app and see if that fixes the issue.

  4. Clear your cache: Sometimes, issues with product variants not updating the photo can be caused by caching issues. Try clearing your browser’s cache and refreshing the page to see if that fixes the issue.

  5. Contact Shopify Support: If none of the above solutions work, reach out to Shopify Support for further assistance. They should be able to help you identify and fix the issue.

@yhaniechii I have the same issue with Dawn 12. Did you solve the problem?

Hello, I got this problem twice on the different products and here’s what I did:

  1. I cleared the browser’s caches: Well this method worked well in my first product, but not in my second product. But, you should still consider doing this.
  2. I changed and rechanged the product’s images: If clearing browser’s cache didn’t work then I suggested you to changed your product variant’s image to another image (random as it’s different than your first picture), then save it. You must make sure that the Shopify system save the change by exiting the product menu, if Shopify still asks you whether to leave the unsaved change means the system still not saved it and you must redo it until it is saved. After that come back and changes it again to your initial image and save it again, also make sure that the system saves it.

I have done it and it worked. Hope you so :slightly_smiling_face:

I accidently created this problem by eliminating variants for certain items I didn’t have in-stock.

In this example, with the size variant having both “Small” & “Large”, both variants were created for all colors; even though I didn’t have those sizes available in all those colors. I only had the red version in size large, so I deleted the variant for “red - small.” I only had the brown in size small, so I deleted the variant for “brown - large.”
The default photo was red & large. When I clicked on “brown” the image didn’t change, because there was no brown in size large as I’d deleted that variant as unnecessary. In order for the photo to change, both buttons for “Brown” and “Small” need to be clicked as that is an existing variant.
So, the lesson I learned was to leave the seemingly unnecessary variants even if you haven’t them in inventory, so the photos will change when they click on any of the color options.

I too have the same issue… is it coz of the theme customization or it has to do with the settings - https://teetrove.in/products/haan-main-late-hun-toh-desi-unisex-tshirt here is the sample url

How did you fix this issue. I’m not getting anywhere with clearing the cache. I also removed variants I no longer offer.

thx,

I fixed the problem by restoring the variants for which I knew I didn’t have in-stock. I just marked the quantities for those items as zero.
