Selling recurring subscriptions in person

I sell a product as a recurring subscription and would like to be able to sign people up for subscriptions at events in person.

At the last event I had people sign up via my website which felt clunky. Can anyone suggest a way to do this along with the Shopify POS app? I use Recharge subscriptions on my website.

thank you in advance!

Hi, @alittlebirdco !

Great question. Since Shopify’s Point of Sale system is creating your order outside of the standard checkout process, unfortunately subscription apps won’t work with the POS system.

Two options you could try are using a permalink that preloads the customers cart and share it via a QR code, or via a draft order link.

A permalink allows you to pre-select the items in a cart and directs your customer directly to the checkout page with the items you selected. It does require some technical knowledge. You can read about how to set this up in a community post about cart permalinks.

You can also do this by creating a checkout link for a product using the buy button which may be easier to set up.

Once you set this up and tested it. You can generate a QR code, then print it and take it with you to your pop-up shop/ tradeshow. Customers will simply scan the QR code and order the product pre-selected in the cart in person!

Draft Order

The second option available is to create a draft order within your Shopify admin and email that order payment link to the customer. You can create an order on your customer’s behalf, then send an invoice to your customer to pay via a secure checkout link.

Before trying either of these I would highly suggest reaching out to the ReCharge team as well. Since it is a third-party app we’re not able to support it, however, they may have received this question before and have a possible workaround for this, or even possibly a feature they’re working on. But it’s always good to let them know so they are aware of what their merchants want when building features!

Feel free to share your subscription product URL as well and I’d be happy to look for any other solutions that would allow this!

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions and for coming back to me. I’m grateful for your time. I did reach out to Recharge but they didn’t have any solutions or ideas (their customer service isn’t always great). I’ll give your ideas a try.

Awesome! Try that out and hopefully you’re able to use those options as a workaround. -Rio
