Setting up a lead magnet automation within Shopify

I am fairly new to Shopify, and am trying to figure out if I can set up a lead magnet automation using the native marketing tools.

There doesn’t seem to be much info on this out there, I found this discussion which looks helpful, but as it’s a few years old I thought I would ask to see if there were updated options.

Any pointers on setting this up natively within Shopify welcome - here’s what I’m trying to do:

  • Offer something of value to user for joining email list (lead magnet)
  • Have a landing page for signup form
  • When someone signs up via that form, they are sent a specific email with details - or redirected to a specific page on site with details
  • Ideally subscriber is tagged to show they signed up via that lead magnet

Any info on which parts of this are completely impossible, and which parts might be do-able would be really appreciated.

I know I can go the route of Mailchimp / Mailerlite /ActiveCampaign / Klayvio but just trying to assess what the native tools are capable of…

Thanks!

  • Offer something of value to user for joining email list (lead magnet) - (add a product)
  • Have a landing page for signup form (the closest things are check out so they purchase fo $0 or contact form)
  • When someone signs up via that form, they are sent a specific email with details - or redirected to a specific page on site with details ( confirmation of product purchase - however it would have less friction and faster to set up with native tools Mailchimp active campaign etc.. )
  • Ideally subscriber is tagged to show they signed up via that lead magnet (custom scripts)

This problem sounds a bit difficult to solve, you can find a professional to help you solve this problem!

Thanks Jessica. Are you saying you think this can be done within Shopify native tools with the aid of a Shopify developer?

Thanks for that. Sounds like best option is going to be to do this outside of Shopify alright.

Any chance there’s been any update on this for the native shopify email?

Otherwise, I may have to go back to using a third party for email.

I’ve set up a lead magnet using the Powr form builder on Shopify. I found a great tutorial on YT by The Marketing Bully called How to create freebies which details how to set it all up. Very simple and easy to follow.

Offering a free lead magnet on Shopify without using an expensive third-party tool like Klaviyo can be accomplished using some of Shopify’s built-in features and other cost-effective tools. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set it up:

1. Create Your Lead Magnet

Ensure your lead magnet (e.g., an eBook, guide, discount code, or exclusive content) is ready and available in a digital format.

2. Set Up a Landing Page- Using Shopify Pages:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages.
  2. Click Add page.
  3. Create a compelling landing page with information about your lead magnet and a call-to-action for visitors to sign up.

3. Use Shopify Forms for Email Collection- Built-in Forms:

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes and click Customize on your active theme.
  2. Add a section or pop-up for an email signup form. Many themes come with built-in form options.
  3. Customize the form to collect email addresses, and add a message about the free lead magnet.

4. Automate Email Response Using Shopify Email- Shopify Email:

  1. Install the Shopify Email app from the Shopify App Store if you haven’t already.
  2. Go to Marketing > Create campaign > Shopify Email.
  3. Create an email campaign that automatically sends the lead magnet to new subscribers.
  4. Use the email editor to design the email and include a link to download the lead magnet or instructions on how to access it.

5. Tag New Subscribers for Future Marketing- To tag new subscribers and segment them for future marketing, ensure that your form or landing page automatically tags users when they sign up.

  1. In the form settings, add a tag to new subscribers (e.g., “Lead Magnet Signup”).
  2. This tag can help you filter and target these subscribers in future campaigns.

6. Promote Your Lead Magnet- Social Media and Blog Posts: Promote your lead magnet across your social media channels and in blog posts to drive traffic to your landing page.

  • Website Pop-ups: Use Shopify’s built-in features or cost-effective apps to create pop-ups on your website that promote your lead magnet.

7. Integrate with Free or Low-Cost Apps- Mailchimp: Mailchimp offers a free plan for up to 2,000 contacts and can integrate with Shopify to help manage your email marketing.

  • Privy: Privy offers free plans with basic features for creating pop-ups and forms.

By using these steps, you can effectively offer a free lead magnet on Shopify without incurring high costs from third-party tools. This approach leverages Shopify’s native capabilities and integrates with free or low-cost apps to enhance your email marketing efforts.
