Shopify Expert Developer — Ongoing Overflow Work

I’m a Shopify CRO specialist and project lead working with a portfolio of DTC and premium ecommerce brands across the UK and Australia. I’m looking for a skilled Shopify developer to work under my direction on an ongoing overflow basis.

This is not a tick-box role. I need someone who understands Shopify inside and out, can spot the pitfalls before they become problems, and brings alternative solutions to the table rather than just executing a brief at face value. If a client requirement has a better way to be solved, I want to hear it.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Shopify theme builds and customisations — OS 2.0, Liquid, sections and blocks
  • Custom functionality — Shopify Functions, metafields, app integrations
  • CRO-led page builds and PDP optimisations
  • Agency client work — professional standards, clear communication required

What I’m looking for:

  • Strong Shopify expertise — you know the platform deeply, not just the surface
  • Excellent English communication — you’ll be interfacing with my briefs directly, clarity is essential
  • Independent thinking — you flag issues, suggest alternatives, and don’t wait to be told what’s obvious
  • Reliable and responsive — I work with premium clients, turnaround and communication standards matter
  • Experience across a range of Shopify project types — theme builds, custom dev, app integrations

My ethos:

  • Native Shopify first mindset — I work to Shopify’s native capabilities wherever possible. I need a developer who understands the platform deeply enough to know what it can do out of the box, reaches for custom code only when genuinely necessary, and never recommends an app or workaround when native functionality exists.
  • Organisation and project clarity — I need a developer who communicates progress clearly without being chased. When a job is in progress I expect regular updates, clear flagging of blockers, and honest timelines. Client transparency is a huge part of me ethos.
  • Genuine drive and excitement — I love what I do and for the people I do it for. Watching clients grow successful brands is what I’m passionate about. In turn we grow as freelancers. It’s a craft, not just a service. Simple, creative solutions for future proofed growth is what I’m all about.

What this looks like in practice:

  • Work comes in project by project on an hourly basis
  • I brief you, you execute and communicate progress clearly
  • Volume varies — quiet periods and busy periods, so flexibility is key
  • Long term relationship if the fit is right

If you feel like you would be a good fit please reply with links to your appropriate profiles :+1: Looking forward to hearing from you

Hi,

I’d like to put myself forward for this opportunity.

I’m a Shopify developer with 10 years of experience. I’ve built custom themes, apps, Shopify Functions, integrations, and automation with Shopify Flow. I’ve worked across almost every part of the Shopify ecosystem. Your native-first approach matches how I like to build.

Before becoming a developer, I worked as a Shopify store manager and virtual assistant. That experience gave me a strong understanding of Shopify from the merchant’s side. I know the platform inside and out.

A couple of relevant examples of my recent work:

  • Discount Composer — a Shopify app I built and published on the App Store, using Shopify Functions for checkout-time discount logic rather than relying on workarounds: Discount Composer
  • ON/1025 — a fully custom OS 2.0 theme I built from scratch, AJAX-driven, with a 63/86 mobile/desktop Lighthouse score despite heavy animation: https://on1025.net

I’ve spent enough time on both sides of client briefs - building exactly to spec and occasionally pushing back with a simpler native solution - to know the difference matters, especially on CRO/PDP work where the “clever” custom build isn’t always the right call. Happy to discuss further or take on a trial project if useful.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Tahmid Hasan

Hi,

Your approach really resonates with how I like to work. I don’t believe in adding apps or custom code unless it’s genuinely the best solution. My first step is always to understand Shopify’s native capabilities, then recommend the simplest, most maintainable approach that delivers the client’s goals.

I have 10+ years of full-stack development experience and 8+ years specializing in Shopify and Shopify Plus. I’ve built stores from scratch, customized OS 2.0 themes, developed custom Liquid sections, integrated third-party APIs, optimized storefront performance, and implemented CRO improvements that increase conversions while keeping stores fast and easy to maintain.

I’m comfortable with:

  • Shopify OS 2.0, Liquid, sections, blocks, metafields, and metaobjects
  • Shopify Functions, custom apps, Admin & Storefront APIs, and webhooks
  • JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, and custom API integrations
  • CRO-focused PDPs, landing pages, checkout optimization, and Core Web Vitals
  • Git/GitHub, clear documentation, and proactive communication

I work independently, communicate regularly without being chased, and always raise potential issues or better alternatives before implementation. I understand agency workflows and the importance of delivering work that reflects well on your client relationships.

Hi @SoPrettyDesign

I believe I’d be a great fit for what you’re looking for.

I specialize in Shopify OS 2.0 theme development, Liquid customization, custom sections and blocks, Shopify Functions, metafields, app integrations, CRO-focused optimizations, speed optimization, SEO, and custom functionality.

I also share your “Native Shopify first” approach. I always prefer Shopify’s built-in features before recommending custom code or third-party apps. When custom development is necessary, I focus on writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code.

I communicate regularly throughout a project, proactively highlight potential issues, and suggest better solutions whenever I see an opportunity. My goal is to deliver high-quality work while making the store easier to maintain in the long run.

Hi,

Your approach is very similar to how I like to work, especially the Shopify native first mindset. Over the last 6+ years, I have worked almost exclusively on Shopify projects, ranging from custom theme development to private/public apps. Before writing custom code or recommending another app, I always evaluate whether Shopify already provides a native solution through OS 2.0 sections, metafields, Search & Discovery, Functions, Flow, or the latest platform capabilities.

Most of my work involves custom theme development rather than page builder based stores. I regularly build reusable sections and blocks, work with Liquid, JSON templates, metafields/metaobjects, variant logic, Shopify Functions, AJAX Cart API, Storefront/Admin GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and third party integrations. I’m also comfortable debugging performance issues, Core Web Vitals, app conflicts, and checkout related problems.

From a CRO perspective, I work on improvements that actually move business metrics rather than simply implementing requests. If I notice unnecessary friction, duplicated functionality, poor information hierarchy, or a solution that will become difficult to maintain, I will always raise it and explain the trade offs before implementing anything.

I also understand the importance of keeping Shopify stores maintainable. My preference is modular architecture, reusable components, minimal dependencies, and writing code that another developer can easily understand six months later.

Communication is equally important to me. I normally work from Git, keep changes isolated, provide regular progress updates, highlight blockers early, and avoid surprises. I don’t need constant follow ups to keep a project moving.

Hi @SoPrettyDesign,

Your native-Shopify-first approach and focus on clear communication caught my attention.

I recently completed NOCTRA, a Shopify OS 2.0 storefront featuring responsive product templates, variant-aware forms, predictive search, cart interactions, accessibility improvements, SEO metadata, and structured desktop/mobile QA.

I would be happy to begin with a small paid trial task so you can evaluate my implementation, communication, and turnaround before considering ongoing work.

I can share the NOCTRA storefront preview and project video privately if you would like to review them.

I’m available for project-based overflow work and comfortable working on duplicate themes with clear progress updates and honest scope communication.

Best,
