Im not able to change the text using CSV file but for some sections CSV is not changing the language how to do that without using any application
Hi there,
That’s a great question — and it comes up a lot when trying to localize a Shopify store.
Here’s why you’re seeing this behavior:
- **What CSV can change
**
-
CSV export/import (via Settings → Languages) only covers dynamic content like product titles, collections, pages, blog posts, and some app text.
-
This means you can translate product data or store content directly via CSV.
- **What CSV cannot change
**
-
Theme-related text (buttons like “Add to cart”, “Search”, “Subscribe”, etc.) is not managed through the CSV file.
-
Those strings live in your theme language settings, not in the content translation CSV.
- **How to change those theme texts (without using any app)
**
-
Go to Online Store → Themes → … → Edit default theme content.
-
There you can see all translatable strings used in your theme (checkout labels, cart buttons, headings, etc.).
-
You can switch to another language and edit those directly.
- **If you want to manage everything in one place
**
-
Shopify doesn’t support CSV import for theme text out of the box.
-
The only two options are:
-
Manually edit them in Edit default theme content (recommended if it’s not too many).
-
Or, if you need bulk work, you’d need a translation app (but I understand you said no apps).
-
So in short: CSV is only for store content. For theme text, you’ll need to edit it under Online Store → Themes → Edit default theme content.
