Shopify payment charge

Hi there,

I have a few questions regarding Shopify payment charge,

  1. Why does Shopify Payments have different rates like 3.3%, 3.8%, and 3.9% for transaction fees?

  2. Why does Shopify Payments charge transaction fees on shipping costs included in orders?

  3. Shopify used to have an Online Customer Service, where you could leave a message and they’d get back to you a few days later, I was trying to find it, but no luck. Do you guys have any ideas where it is? Or does it still exist?

Thanks a lot

Hey, @namucrystal ! I’d love to help and discuss these questions with you. Please find my answers below.

  1. Why does Shopify Payments have different rates like 3.3%, 3.8%, and 3.9% for transaction fees?
    • This is likely due to the different pricing plans. Could you please share a screenshot of the page where you find this information so I can confirm and elaborate?
  2. Why does Shopify Payments charge transaction fees on shipping costs included in orders?
    • Shopify Payments charges transaction fees on shipping costs included in orders because these fees are calculated based on the total order value, which includes the cost of products, discounts, taxes, and shipping charges.
  3. Shopify used to have an Online Customer Service, where you could leave a message and they’d get back to you a few days later, I was trying to find it, but no luck. Do you guys have any ideas where it is? Or does it still exist?
    • We’ve shifted our focus onto our live chat support channel so we can provide immediate support to our merchants. While you can only connect to a support advisor through live chat, our Facebook and X support channels are available, which are asynchronous support channels. We are unable to provide account-specific support there, but you’re welcome to leave a message through those channels anytime.

Let me know if there’s anything unclear about the above!

Hello, Summer, thanks for the reply. Shopify would have a higher charging rate at 3.9% when it is an overseas order, I have seen 3.8% from last year, so I am not so sure if there’s a raise in charging rate or something else.
