Shopify Payment Installments -- Payout Questions

Hi, I just installed the Shopify Pay Installment feature, easier than I thought, test order went great…question is, what about the payout?? Usually payout information is available in the order details on every order that is confirmed, but the test order does not show any payout date or amount.

It does not show up as a Partial Payment – so, do I “ship the order now” or wait for final payment?

Does my payout happen when the payment installment is initialized when the order is confirmed, or after the last payment is collected. What if the customer defaults. Other payment installment apps make it clear in their documentation that the seller ships the order immediately, and payout is immediate, but I can’t find the answers in the available documentation.

Help!

Hello @tamirenee !

Could I just confirm, - did you put your payment gateway in test mode for this order? If you did, then you’re not seeing it reflected anywhere because payouts from test orders do not show in your payout section or any reports. The reason for that is because it is just that, a simulated transaction to give you an idea of what the customer’s checkout experience look like. As a note in the doc I linked earlier, we advise that you don’t fulfil any test orders as you can be charged for shipping labels in that instance.

When it comes to placing a regular order through Shop Pay Installments, you’ll receive your payout 1 to 3 business days after your customer’s payment is completed. After the order is completed, you receive full payment for the order upfront, excluding the fee incurred for using Shop Pay Installments.

Regarding your last question about shipping the order, would you be able to clarify what you mean? If you’re referring to shipping the order while waiting for installments - you should be able to ship as soon as you’re ready as you receive full payment upfront regardless of how the customer chooses to pay. More information on this can be seen in our help doc on Shop Pay Installments if you haven’t seen it already.

Let me know if you have any other questions on this.

Thanks! -Lana
