I was trying to find a good dropship app, when I found Shopify recommending various apps including HyperSKU. As you may be aware a dropship app is meant to offer wholesale products that you can markup to then add a margin to, which ships direct from the seller to your customer.
So I tested the HyperSKU app. This is not a Dropship app. It’s a total sham. The Chinese company behind the app claim that you can dropship products from “AliExpress”. But when you use the app there is just a whole mess of poor selection of products that doesn’t really allow you to select them from AliExpress. When I asked support how to select per supplier, they didn’t have the feature I was told. However, they don’t have the feature because the whole app is misleading.
After checking products I noticed it’s their own selection of products, not AliExpress, at full retail prices and beyond.
For example, HyperSKU is selling a children’s “Felth cloth book products” for US $11.95. That sounds like a highly inflated price, so I did a little more research.
That same product is actually selling retail, not wholesale, in China for £1.16 (about US $1.50)… And it’s selling on eBay for about the same amount.
If you do dropship, to cover for your costs, listing fees, returns, missing orders, fraud, ads, you need a minimum 5x markup. Otherwise you don’t really make profits.What markup are you supposed to make on this product, for example, which is already marked up by 10x?
For Shopify to recommend this scam, where newbies on Shopify don’t have the experience to be aware how much time and costs it takes to put together a store, advertise it or cross list it on other platforms, and then find out you did nothing but make losses is pretty low.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS and save yourselves hundreds of dollars.
