A Shopify store stole all my product images from my website. I filled out a DCMA form but was informed that since my shop was not hosted on Shopify that there was nothing that they could do. How can Shopify stores steal images from other vendors?
Shopify stores, like any other website, can technically download images from any publicly accessible site on the internet. I understand that having your images stolen is harmful to your brand, but it’s not easy to get them taken down if Shopify cannot interfere.
The action to make them take down can take quite a while, at which time, I recommend informing your customers that another store is copying your images to avoid any misunderstandings. Use all your channels to communicate this. Moving forward, you should add watermarks to all your images and instruct your customers on how to differentiate the products from your store.
