Should I upgrade to Advanced Plan or just buy 'Calculated rates at checkout' add-on?

I received this email from a third-party company, Shippit, which handles shipping connections : In order to use live quoting on Shopify, you would need to be on at least on the Advanced Plan or have the paid add-on feature called “Calculated rates at checkout.”

If you are currently on the Basic Plan, you may need to contact Shopify to inquire about upgrading your plan or requesting the add-on feature. They will be able to assist you further in determining the availability and options for enabling live quotes on your Shopify store

They informed me that I need to upgrade my account to the Advanced Plan in order to connect with them. Alternatively, they mentioned a paid add-on feature called “Calculated rates at checkout.” I am currently unsure whether I should upgrade to the Shopify Plan OR the Advanced Plan, and follow their suggestion to use the “Calculated rates at checkout” feature to connect with Shippit. May I still use the Basic and only buy a paid add-on feature called “Calculated rates at checkout.” ?
I recall that about two months ago, the Shopify Plan was able to connect with Shippit. Have you made any changes to the contract and pricing?

Hi @thinhchu

This totally depends on your if you want to calculate shipping on checkout or not If you are using basic plan and all the requirements are fulfilled so you don’t need to upgrade and if you want some more enhanced shipping calculations then you can upgrade or you can also use shopify other apps for the same

Hey, [email removed]Thinhchu! Welcome to Shopify Community!

I understand you’re looking to use Shippit. You do need the Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) add-on in order to utilize calculated rates on your checkout. Previously, this was available as an add-on in the Basic plan, however, it’s now only available in the Shopify, Advanced, and Plus plans. CCS is free in the annual Shopify plan, monthly and annual Advanced plan, as well as Plus, however, it’s a $20 USD/month add-on in the monthly Shopify plan.

If you’re currently on the Basic plan and flat rate shipping rates aren’t suitable for your store, it’s a good idea to consider upgrading to the Shopify plan. You don’t only get the ability to add CCS to your plan, but you also get upgraded features such as more staff accounts, standard reports, and lower credit card/transaction fees. To view a complete list of the features in the Shopify plan and compare it with other plans, you can refer to our pricing page. Once you’re ready to upgrade your plan, you can refer to this guide and then you can visit our support page to create a support ticket and request to have CCS added.

If you have any questions about what I’ve discussed, don’t hesitate to let me know by replying here and I’ll be happy to help you further!

Hello @Summer ,

Is the monthly fee for adding third-party carrier rates to a Shopify plan still $20 USD/month? Or has it gone up? I know if a merchant was to commit to a year on the Shopify plan they get third-party carrier rates included, but after the plan price increases, has the monthly fee for adding on third-party carrier rates gone up too?

Hey, [email removed]Trxdschnare!

Despite the recent changes to our subscription pricing, the Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) fee remains unchanged. It’s still a $20 USD/month add-on to the monthly Shopify plan, and it continues to be free for the annual Shopify plan. CCS is included in the Advanced and Plus plans and doesn’t need to be added on. If you’re on the monthly or annual Shopify plan and need CCS for your store, you can visit our Help Center to get in touch with our support team. Furthermore, if you are on the Starter or Basic Shopify plan, you can upgrade to the Shopify plan or higher to be able to use CCS.

You can find more details about Carrier Calculated Shipping on this page. Let me know if you have other questions and I’ll be happy to answer them!

Hi Summer, does the annual Shopify Plan, still include the Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) feature for free? Original thread dates back to September- we are now in November, and would like to know if that still applicable, before I move forward. Thanks

Hey, [email removed]KorkAustralia!

You can certainly get CCS for free when you’re on the annual Shopify plan. Although, please note that when you upgrade to that annual plan, CCS will not be added automatically. You will need to get in touch with our support team in order for them to add it to your plan. After upgrading to the annual Shopify plan, you can follow the steps below to create a support ticket.

  1. Visit our Help Center.
  2. Chat with the AI assistant and enter “account concern.”
  3. Click Chat with a Support Advisor as shown on this screenshot.

Let me know if you have other questions about CCS or need assistance creating a support ticket, and I’ll be happy to help you further!

Hi Summer,
Thanks for your reply. Are you absolutely sure- I can upgrade to the annual Plan and still have the carrier feature added to it?
I only ask because I have been told by another Support person, that you cannot and must be on the monthly plan.
I just need to be confident that when I switch to annual that I can still have the carrier added. If it is added, can I get it annually as well? Or if not, can I get the carrier in AUD$ subscription and not USD?
Thanks

My pleasure, [email removed]KorkAustralia! I apologize on behalf of the support advisor you previously spoke with because I have just triple-checked, and you can absolutely get CCS for free on the annual Shopify plan. As mentioned in my initial reply to this post, you can also get CCS on the monthly Shopify plan, however, that is a $20 USD/month add-on. To further support this, you can go over our help doc on activating third-party carrier-calculated shipping where you can find additional confirmation that CCS can be added to the monthly or annual Shopify plan:

Since CCS is free on the annual Shopify plan, you will not be charged when it is added to your plan. If you opt for the monthly Shopify plan, your store is located in Australia, and you’ve enabled local currency billing in your store, CCS will be charged in AUD. It will be a $29 AUD/month add-on to the monthly Shopify plan.

Many thanks Summer! :slightly_smiling_face: This is the first honest, straight answer I have received about this. And I thank you for this. Based on your advice, I will look to upgrade to Annual Shopify Plus tand seek assistance from a Shopify Staff to have the CCS feature added for free. Can I contact you to do this for me? You have been the only person, that has been able to help me!

[email removed]KorkAustralia No worries at all! I’m really glad to hear that helped!

I would love to assist you myself with adding CCS to your plan if I could. We work separately from our support team and we don’t have the necessary capabilities to support you with account-specific concerns, so I unfortunately won’t be able to access your account and grant your request.

One of our support advisors can add CCS to your plan. If they say otherwise, you’re welcome to share the help doc I previously linked here, however, I am certain they can take care of this request once you reach out to them after upgrading to the annual Shopify plan.
