Small business in USA, want to sell internationally -- should I use Managed Markets?

I am trying to set up my shopify store so that I can sell internationally. I am based in USA and currently only sell to USA. I have a pretty simple shopify store. I want to be able to sell and ship across the world. I sell a physical product in the fashion space. I don’t expect to have a lot of international traffic, so I want the easiest solution that won’t be off-putting to potential customers. Would that be Managed Markets? I have been approved for that, and it looks like it’ll be about 9% fees (as opposed to the ~3% I’m paying for US sales). Assuming that I’m okay with the extra 6%, will this give me the functionality I need? I would like to avoid the hassle of setting up different shipping zones and shipping rates for Europe, UK, Canada, Asia, etc., and also trying to figure out taxes/duties. At this point I don’t have different marketing needs for different countries, so that isn’t a consideration, in case it’s relevant. I also only have one inventory location in the USA.

Hope everything is fine, with your question about expanding your Shopify store to international markets. Selling internationally can feel daunting, but with the right setup, it can be a smooth and rewarding process.

Managed Markets: Is It Right for You?

Based on what you’ve shared, Shopify’s Managed Markets could be a great option for your needs. Here’s why:

  1. Ease of Setup:

    • Shopify handles currency conversion, taxes, and duties automatically for you.
    • You don’t need to create separate shipping zones for different regions.
  2. Transparent Costs:

    • The 9% fee includes payment processing, taxes/duties calculation, and cross-border support, making it predictable and hassle-free.
  3. Customer-Friendly Experience:

    • Customers will see their prices in their local currency and have taxes/duties included, which reduces cart abandonment.

If you’re okay with the slightly higher fees and you’re not expecting heavy international traffic initially, Managed Markets is likely the easiest and least time-consuming option.
