Stocky purchasing and receiving

At wits end. Stocky was definitely designed by a person that was totally inexperience in creating purchase orders and receiving merchandise. We can do a better and quicker more thorough job manually on paper. A gigantic amount of improvement is necessary. Lightspeed is much better concerning purchasing and receiving.

Hey @Philip_Gangi :waving_hand:

Totally understand your frustration — you’re not alone. Stocky can feel clunky, especially for merchants used to faster workflows like Lightspeed’s PO and receiving process. It was built originally for smaller operations, and the interface hasn’t evolved much since Shopify acquired it.

A few ways to make it a bit smoother (or alternatives to consider):

:light_bulb: Quick Improvements in Stocky

  1. Use CSV imports for large POs — faster than manual entry.

  2. Enable automatic PO suggestions based on low inventory (can save time once set).

  3. Sync receiving directly through POS Pro — helps reduce double data entry.

  4. Disable unused supplier fields under Settings → Supplier Defaults to simplify the form.

:rocket: Better Alternatives (especially for scaling stores)

If your workflow is more volume-based:

  • Inventory Planner – far better forecasting and PO workflow; integrates directly with Shopify.

  • Katana – works great for purchase, manufacturing, and receiving management.

  • Cin7 Core (DEAR) – closest feel to Lightspeed for advanced purchasing and vendor management.

If you’re looking for a middle ground, I’d suggest Inventory Planner first — it’s the most Shopify-friendly option while keeping similar PO logic to Lightspeed.

Hey Philip,

I run a app at the moment which supports stock taking, inventory counts, transfers and integrates fully with Shopify POS. PML Stock Take Inventory Count - Scan barcodes, count products, manage your stock levels in POS | Shopify App Store
I’m looking at adding Purchase Orders in March, I’d love to hear your experience and what your ideal process looks like and how I could incorporate this for you

I’ve written up a more in depth guide on the end of stocky and what is/isn’t moving and how you can use Shopify own tools as well as our app Pimsical

Please drop me a message or email if I can help or you’d like to discuss what your ideal workflow looks like

I’m going to necro this message because the landscape has changed a bit. First, Stocky is going away in August per Shopify’s announcement. Second, a new solution has popped up in the last few weeks that is absolutely MADE BY a person with not only direct experience dealing with retail purchase orders and receiving merchandise, but by one that has been an employee of Nike in their Product Creation division (ok, it’s me - I’m that guy).

I don’t know if you’re still looking or if you’re even still on Shopify, but maybe somebody else will see this and say, “Hey, that’s my problem too!” and try FyreTrail. FyreTrail does the whole purchase order to delivery to Shopify to customer’s hands workflow (and a lot more too). It handles partial deliveries, inventory stock takes, budgeting, reporting, etc.

Our personal store has been using FyreTrail since last April before it became available for all Shopify customers to use with their own store and we can’t really live without the efficiencies it brings. I hope you find it useful! If you don’t, just reach out and we can discuss why and how to make it so you get the same benefits!

problem is there price with many sku we have but most are livestock and we only use stocky for drygood.
