I’m thinking about using store credit as part of my loyalty strategy. The idea is to reward customers whenever they take certain actions that positively impact my store — like creating an account, making their first purchase, or leaving a review.
Honestly, using store credit can be a powerful loyalty strategy, but it is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it is incredibly effective at*guaranteeing a repeat visit, as customers must return to your store to spend their credit. They also tend to spend more than their credit amount, which increases your average order value.
However, the main downsides are cost and complexity. Shopify does not do this automatically, so you will need to pay for a third-party loyalty app. You also have to remember that every dollar of unused credit is a financial liability that your business owes to its customers, and the system can sometimes attract one-time deal hunters rather than truly loyal shoppers.
My honest advice is to start simpler. Before committing to a full store credit system, test the waters by offering a simple discount code for new email sign-ups and after a first purchase. If you find that these successfully bring customers back, it is a strong signal that investing in a more powerful store credit system will be a profitable move.
There are lots of loyalty apps that do exactly that. There is one free app called Essential that works really well. They give points for various actions, and then the points are redeemed as store credit.
Store credit is very underrated at the moment, but I’ve seen it almost guarantee a repeat order.
The best part is you don’t even need an app to do the things you mentioned. You can use Shopify flows to do the rewards you shared, so it’s essentially completely free to use. I can share more into this if you’d like.
Of course - you can also make use of an app for this too. We run Dollarback (an app on Shopify) to help brands offer a cashback program on their store.
That sounds like a fantastic idea! Using store credit as part of your loyalty strategy can be a great way to encourage customer engagement and reward actions that benefit your business.
It’s all about building a deeper relationship with customers. Store credit is a win-win—customers feel rewarded, and your store gets more repeat business. Plus, by aligning rewards with actions that benefit your store

This level of automation ensures you can reward customers without manual effort, while maintaining consistency in how you engage with them.
That’s a great idea. Actually, this is exactly the idea behind Koin — we built our app to help merchants like you reward customers automatically through store credit.
With Koin + Shopify Flow, you can easily set up automations such as:
Give store credit when a customer creates an account
Reward their first purchase
Offer credit when they leave a review
Once you set it up, it all runs on autopilot — your customers get rewarded instantly, and you grow loyalty without lifting a finger.
You can try it with basic and free app first to test if it’s worth. We are using Koin app, simple, free (not free trial). Using store credit to encourage reviews works really well. You should give it a try!
Thanks for making such a great app. I have been using Koin to reward first-time customers, and it has shown some positive results with more people making repeat purchases ever since the campaign started running.
The setup with Shopify Flow felt a little bit tricky at first, but your video tutorials really saved me.
That’s a great idea, implementing store credits is a fantastic way to boost engagement and retention!
With Searchanise Upsell & Marketing, you can easily collect customer emails in exchange for Shopify store credits using the Email Collection Bar or Email Collection Pop-up.
Here’s how it works:
Your customers leave their email address, receive store credits in their account, and can use them right away or later. It’s a simple but effective way to build stronger customer relationships and keep shoppers coming back.
Hi there @AlexGrowth It definitely sounds like a good plan to me. I think an extra suggestion would be to make the credit points system very transparent from the onset eg +1 for opening an account, +10 for actually making a purchase, etc. This way makes it easier for customers themselves to track it and be aware
