Symmetry theme- show color variants on product card

In my theme, Symmetry, the color variants should show up as little color circles on the product card. They aren’t showing on mine. Does anyone know how I can get them to work? I have seemingly turned on every setting in the theme for showing variants. Here’s an example of a page that I would like to show the many color variants on:

You might want to check a few things before assuming the feature is broken, because with Symmetry the swatches usually depend on both the theme settings and how the variants are configured.

A few things I’d look at:

  • Make sure the option name is something the theme recognizes, such as Color or Colour. Some themes don’t automatically treat custom option names as color swatches.

  • Check whether the variants actually have color values assigned (Black, White, Navy, etc.) rather than generic values that the theme can’t interpret as colors.

  • Test with a product that has only a few simple color variants to see whether the issue affects all products or just certain ones.

  • Verify whether the page you’re looking at is using the standard collection/product grid section. Sometimes swatches are enabled for collection pages but not for featured collections, search results, or custom sections.

  • If Symmetry supports swatches based on variant images or color settings, make sure those are configured as well. Depending on the version, simply enabling the setting isn’t always enough.

One quick test that can help narrow things down is to duplicate a product, create a few very basic color variants (for example Black, White, Red), and see if swatches appear on that product card. If they do, the issue is probably related to how the existing products are configured. If they don’t, it’s more likely a theme configuration issue.

Also, if you’re comfortable sharing a screenshot of:

  1. The product’s variant setup in Shopify Admin

  2. The swatch-related settings in Symmetry

it would be much easier to identify what’s missing.

As a fallback, if you ultimately find that the native Symmetry swatches don’t provide the behavior you’re looking for, there are apps that can create visual color and image swatches independently of the theme. I’ve seen merchants use Easify Custom Product Options for this when they want more control over how colors, images, or custom options are displayed. That said, I’d try to get Symmetry’s built-in swatches working first, since the theme should already support this use case without adding another app.

My guess is that this is either:

  • a product option naming/configuration issue, or

  • a setting that only applies to certain sections of the theme rather than the entire storefront.

If you can share a screenshot of the variant setup, that will probably reveal the cause pretty quickly.:heart:
