I’m testing some variant options for a product I imported with DSers from AliExpress, and every time I try to save, I get this error:
There is 1 error with this product:
SKU can’t be blank
What’s the most practical fix? Should I delete the product and re-import it, or is there a faster way to add SKUs to the variants? It looks like I’d need to fill out a whole page of details for each variant, which would take a lot of time. Is there an easier way to handle this?
Shopify wants every variant to have a SKU, and sometimes DSers doesn’t auto-fill them. The good news is you don’t have to delete and re-import.
A couple of quick fixes that have worked for me:
Bulk editor – from your product page, click “Edit variants” → “Open bulk editor”. You’ll see all the variants in a spreadsheet view, and you can quickly paste or auto-generate SKUs across the whole table instead of doing them one by one.
Auto-generate SKUs – you don’t need them to be fancy. Even something simple like productname-1, productname-2, productname-3… works. If you’re dropshipping and not tracking physical stock, Shopify doesn’t care what the SKU is as long as it’s not blank.
Apps / DSers settings – some people let DSers assign SKUs automatically in their import settings. If you plan to import more products, it’s worth checking that option so you don’t have to do this step every time.
So no need to re-import, just use the bulk editor, fill SKUs quickly, and you’re good to go.
If it feels like a lot to set up, let me know, I’d be glad to jump in as a collaborator and help get your variants sorted faster.
