This store can’t accept payments right now

I’ve always used PayPal express for payments without any issues but now I get this message:

This store can’t accept payments right now.

I cant find PayPal as an option either when I go to settings. Please advise why this could be?

Hi @danny_bkk

Welcome to the Shopify Community!

There are a few different reasons why you might see the error message of ‘This store can’t accept payments right now’ in the checkout. However, as you have mentioned that your store was previously working without issue and now you cannot find PayPal as an option, then there’s a good chance the error is related to your payments.

Are you seeing any error messages or banners in your Shopify admin suggesting that something on your store needs attention? Can you also confirm if you are using any other payment gateways, besides PayPal?

When you navigate to Settings > Payments, do you see anything there at all in relation to PayPal? Usually you would see PayPal listed there, and a Manage button that you can click to take a closer look at the PayPal setup. Feel free to send a screenshot of the payments section of your admin, so that I can get a better idea of what is going on (please take care to make sure there is no private or confidential information in the screenshot such as your email address or other credentials).

It’s also entirely possible that the issue is with your PayPal account itself. With that in mind, I would recommend logging in to your PayPal account and making sure that there are no issues there that need attention. You could also consider reaching out to their support team for clarification on your account status.

In the interim, if you don’t have any other way for customers to place orders on your store then you could consider adding a different third-party payment gateway, so that you have a payment method available for customers to use in your checkout.

Hi,

Appreciate the response.

No, there is no message to indicate an issue. Oddly there is no option for
PayPal in the settings now as below in the screenshot.

For context, PayPal Thailand was recently relaunched so we had to set up a
new account but it works as I am using it for sending manual invoices but
at the very least shopify should show it as a payment option correct?

Thanks for getting back with this information @danny_bkk

I understand that you are not seeing PayPal as an option in your payments settings, and so you cannot activate the gateway.

Can you confirm that PayPal was working on your store located in Thailand previously? You also mentioned that you had to set up a new account for PayPal as it was recently relaunched in Thailand - during this process did you disable PayPal on your store, with the hopes of re-enabling it for the new account?

I understand that PayPal is available to use in Thailand, however as you can see on our list of available payment gateways in Thailand here, PayPal is not currently listed as a gateway to choose from on Shopify.

You can try accessing the PayPal gateway using a direct link, to see if that allows you to access the PayPal setup. To try this, you will need to add the following to your main store URL: admin/settings/payments/paypal-express-checkout. For example if my store domain was examplestore.myshopify.com then it would be examplestore.myshopify.com/admin/settings/payments/paypal-express-checkout. There is no guarantee this will work however, but it is worth a try to see if it allows you to access this gateway again.

If you were previously using PayPal on this same store located in Thailand, and have noticed that all of a sudden you cannot access it (maybe after removing it and trying to re-add it) and my above workaround does not work, then I would recommend reaching out to our support team using this link here. One of our advisors can take a closer look and see if there’s anything that can be done on our side. To set expectations however, as PayPal is not listed on the available payment gateways page, it’s possible that you will need to use a different gateway from that list.
