Our company has multiple Shopify stores, as we operate one business entity that has several DBAs. We sell one category of products (embroidered patches) under several different brand names (scouting patches, military-style patches, disc golf patches, etc.) So we have several Shopify stores for the different brands, but there is only one central business entity, and thus only one tax payer ID.
Because all of our sales, across our multiple storefronts, will contribute to the total sales of our main business entity, I need to track our sales tax nexus across all of our stores collectively.
Shopify support tells me that this is not currently a feature of Shopify Tax. Even though each of our stores is set up using the same TIN, sales and sales taxes will be tracked for each store individually.
I know we cannot be the only business operating this way. Does anyone have a clever solution for how they are handling this situation?
My only thought right now is that at least with Shopify Tax I can easily see the nexus information for each state, and manually combine them across my stores periodically. When the combined sales reach nexus for a particular jurisdiction, I will place manual overrides on the jurisdiction and proceed by collecting and tracking sales taxes manually.
Any thoughts or insights appreciated!
