Unable to locate the 4:3 (or 3:4) ratio in the media section

Topic summary

Missing 4:3 (3:4) crop option in Shopify’s media section; only a 2:3 portrait preset appears. This breaks consistency for stores whose product images are all in 4:3, making bulk recropping impractical.

Requests for advice and a workaround are raised. One user’s stopgap: airdrop images to phone, crop in the Photos app, then airdrop back—acknowledged as very tedious.

The original poster ultimately abandoned the search for the 4:3 setting and switched to Shopify’s available presets. They tolerated inconsistent (“wonky”) image presentation until enough new products were uploaded to restore visual balance.

No confirmed resolution or official fix is shared. Current status: unresolved. Open question: how to re-enable or access a 4:3 crop in the Shopify media tools without manual per-image edits.

All of the images on our website are in a 4:3 (3:4) ratio but the button is now missing. Can anyone advise me? There is no way I’m going through hundreds of products and switching them to 2:3 ratio, which is the only portrait orientation I’m seeing…

Have you found a resolution to this or at least a workaround? I’ve been airdropping the images to my phone, cropping them in the photo app, then airdropping them back to my computer. It’s so tedious and time consuming. If you’ve found a better way, please share.

I’ve totally given up on this quest! I just use one of their presets and had to deal with my images being wonky for a while until i uploaded enough new product to have some semblance of balance again.
