Hi currently I am using an app named matrixify to update data in metafields through csv. Somehow I am facing issues while trying to upload image file. Is there any specific format in which images should be uploaded?

I assume that you mean that you are trying to import [file_reference] type metafield.
As this is a relatively new feature in the app and in Shopify, currently it would need to have Shopify internal GID for that file listed that Shopify requires in the back-end.
So you first need to upload the images/files in your Shopify Admin → Settings → Files. Then you can export Files using Matrixify app and in the exported file you would have GID for each file. That is what you need to use in the Metafield to reference a file/image.
You should see similar values save in this metafield if you set it manually for some products in Shopify Admin and then export those Products with Metafields using Matrixify.
