What's the difference between collection and page templates?

Hi there,

I am trying to make a new website based on the dawn 5.0 theme.

yesterday I have watched some videos about creating templates.

I see one person creating an collection template and another person creating an page template.

with both the same result, it’s for me to understand where to use what.

I am in a theme that is not the main theme yet, so I created an collection template, but it doesn’t show up in my

product listing when I go the use template instead of the standard template, this can be because I am not in the

active theme.

I want to understand where to use which template, any one an idea.

Its for me to understand when to use a new page template and when to use a collection template, because i see the are both the same.
