I cant believe that Shopify still haven’t sorted this out yet from early 2024 when they said in their Editions post it was coming. How many more Editions are they going to release before they actually do what they offered in previous editions. Come on Shopify stop just promising and start delivering on those promises, at the very least they should provide an update in the next Editions on what they haven’t delivered from the previous Editions so we know what’s happening.

In for updates. Our clothing store wholesale-caps.com is greatly affected by this.
This was rolled out over a year ago for Plus account so what is the reason/hold up for not rolling it out to all accounts. I have an Etsy shop where I can add more than 100 variants but don’t want to offer more on Etsy than Shopify. This is hurting my shops. Many shops need more than 100 variants per product. I opened a shopify store because I thought this would have happen by now. I’ve taken so mush time amd money to get my website set up and have been waiting for this to happen. Shopify, you are leading us along.

It’s NOT shopify holding things up. It’s APP developers and theme makers who’ve had to adjust, or remake entire offerings to work with Shopify’s variant changes.
Luckily, Shopify’s roll out is happening as of yesterday.
It’s not shopify, it’s APP and theme Devs holding things up. It was announced & soft launched on shopify plus, a lot of third party APPs and themes went squiffy. Eventually shopify gave everyone the deadline of September 30th to get their product ready for 2000+ variants, its October 10th and the roll out started yesterday
Than why is this available to plus account?
Instead of moving to Shopify Plus and paying $2300USD/month the easy way is to do this with the custom coding. With the help of custom coding you can add the thousands of the Variants.
See how on this store it’s adding the variants by the custom coding.
Visit this store and then click on Personalize & Add To Cart and you see the color swacthes. These are custom coded.

Because stores on plus accounts aren’t using apps, they’ve got the budget to hire developers to do whatever they need that isn’t covered.
Shopify said in the end of 2024 that it has rolled out to some plus accounts
Shopify’s extended variant feature is being rolled out in phases and is not yet available for all stores. It is subject to your plan and theme compatibility. You can try it by turning on “Advanced Product Options” in your product editor or on a draft store. Complete release dates have not been confirmed.
