I am trying to improve my website’s speed score. It states that when I remove some apps I don’t use I should also remove the codes that that app has left behind (even if I haven’t used the app). Where do I find this in the code editor?
Hi @LSAccounting ,
I think you should contact with the app you installed so that they can guide you remove that code.
Check your theme.liquid file in the theme editor. That’s usually where app code is added.
If you can’t find the code, email the app developer, they can tell you how to remove it.
I hope it helps.
That’s unfortunately impossible as I have already deleted the apps that were not needed. In the speed report it states to delete the unused apps and the codes that they may have created. So I have deleted the apps first.
Hello @LSAccounting ,
You are absolutely correct. It’s an excellent way to increase your store speed.
However, to remove the unused app code you need to hire a developer who can do that for you, or else you need to contact app support, they will guide you on how you can remove the unused app code.
FYI: All the apps based on online store 2.0 have not inserted any code in your theme.

All the best,
Team CedCommerce
a) go to online store → actions → duplicate (so you have a back up)
b) go then select EDIT code from actions
c) on left select the theme.liquid (copy everything you see in the window on right)
d) select ADD NEW LAYOUT
e) select theme.liquid and name this BACKUP
f) select all code in this new window and DELETE
g) PASTE the code you copied from theme.liquid (now you have a backup - even though shopify allows you to go back to older versions it is a pain to find the correct one)
h) go to theme.liquid on left then scroll down and see if you can find any scripts from the old apps and remove them. Something like etc. then delete the code.
i) once completed SAVE
j) on the left now find your header.liquid and footer.liquid (ie: sometimes under snippets)
k) perform the same steps above ( ie: d thru i ) but you will select ADD NEW SNIPPET
l) lastly go to online store → customize —> then on bottom left select THEME and on top right on on left you will see some tabs and one says APP EMBEDs. Just check to see if that is enabled for any old apps (it should not be but some devs are sloppy)
Hope this helps

One last note. You should always START with the FASTEST theme available. Instead of trying to go backwards.
Thank you, you couldn’t have explained this better.
If I need any further help with this or others, I will definitely keep you in mind
